Rackspace Technology is looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Revenue Accountant to join our Technical Accounting team. This role will primarily assist in the technical accounting review of revenue related items and contracts in addition to assistance with our monthly and quarterly control activities. The Revenue Accountant will be responsible for managing and analyzing revenue streams, ensuring accurate and timely revenue recognition, and supporting the financial reporting process. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with teams throughout the business including sales, finance, and operations.
As a member of our team, you will learn the ins and outs of Rackspace including our product offerings and our customer contracts. This role has a significant impact on our accounting organization and visibility among CFO leadership. This role will be part of the Revenue Accounting team based in the US.
Key Accountabilities
Analyze and research revenue accounting matters including new product launches and unique customer arrangements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies. Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.Prepare accurate and comprehensive documentation around accounting conclusions reached.Assist with ad hoc projects and questions.Enhance existing processes by identifying efficiencies or proposing new ways to do things. Work closely with sales, operations, and other departments to gather necessary information for revenue recognition and reporting.Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations related to revenue transactions.
Skills
Extensive knowledge of US GAAPExperience researching complex accounting issues.Excellent time and self-management skills, the ability to prioritize and meet deadlinesPreference for working in a fast paced and challenging environment3+ years of public accounting experience (Big 4 or large regional audit firm preferred)Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or FinanceQualified accountantKnowledge of and basic ability to read and write SQL a bonusIntermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferredUnderstanding of Oracle e-Business Suite and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) software a plus
Primary Responsibilities
Assist with technical accounting research and prepare accounting documentation on a variety of technical accounting concepts, including business combinations, internal-use software cost capitalization, and leasingResponsible for remaining current on and documenting new accounting standards, considering the relevant accounting literature and the effect of the transaction on the company’s financial statementsAssist with implementation projects for new accounting standards, including the new financial instruments and lease accounting standardsAssist in review of contracts, including leases, financing agreements, significant vendor arrangements and acquisitions, to identify potential accounting issuesAssist in the development of new accounting policies and review/update existing policesPrepare impairment tests quarterly, annually and as required of the Company’s consolidated tangible and intangible assetsCoordinate with external auditors to provide requested documentation regarding financial statements and accounting treatment for specific transactionsCollaborate with Financial Reporting team on preparation of financial statement disclosuresWork with and respond to accounting inquiries from the organization’s global accounting organizationAd hoc requests and projects as necessary.
