Position Overview
The Senior Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely execution of payment processing and invoice review in compliance with company policies, internal controls, and statutory requirements. The role serves as the escalation point for complex AP queries and supporting process improvements within the AP function.
Key Responsibilities
Payments Processing
- Prepare and upload payment runs into the Citidirect banking platform (ACH, SWIFT, wire transfers).
- Review payment batches for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with approval matrix.
- Liaise with Treasury for funding requirements and payment scheduling.
- Investigate and resolve payment rejections or bank queries.
Invoice Processing Review
- Review junior team members’ invoice processing for accuracy in PO matching, GL coding, tax compliance (VAT, EWT), and supporting documentation.
- Ensure adherence to invoice processing SLAs and escalation protocols.
Issue Resolution & Vendor Management
- Act as a first-level escalation point for vendor disputes and complex AP issues.
- Investigate and resolve mismatched purchase order/invoice data.
Compliance & Process Improvement
- Ensure all AP transactions comply with company policies and statutory regulations.
- Participate in process reviews, system enhancements, and automation initiatives.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests related to AP activities.
Team Support
- Provide guidance and training development to team members.
- Support the AP Team Manager in workload distribution and performance monitoring.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–5 years of progressive AP experience
- Solid knowledge of accounting principles, AP processes, and relevant tax regulations
- Netsuite experience preferred
- Strong Excel skills, experience with AP automation tools is a plus
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
