About the Role

We are seeking an experienced BigFix L3 Engineer – Middleware Patching to manage and execute enterprise-wide patching activities using HCL BigFix. The role focuses on ensuring safe, staged patch rollouts across large environments, following a structured progression from sandbox → pilot → production, while maintaining high compliance and system stability.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute middleware (pilot) patching waves across Windows, Linux, Unix, Database, and Middleware endpoints.

• Design, create, and manage baselines, fixlets, and custom actions to support pilot and production patching.

• Perform pre-patch checks, deployment, post-patch validation, and handle rollback scenarios when required.

• Coordinate closely with application and infrastructure teams to identify and finalize pilot device cohorts.

• Troubleshoot patch deployment issues, including relay/root server health, client logs, FillDB issues, and download failures.

• Monitor patch compliance dashboards, pilot wave telemetry, and manage exception requests.

• Escalate critical patching failures and provide detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) along with corrective and preventive actions.

• Integrate patching workflows with ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) for RFC creation, approvals, and change tracking.

• Provide weekend or off-hours support during scheduled patching windows as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in HCL BigFix administration, with a strong focus on patch management.

• Hands-on expertise in Relevance, Action Script, baseline creation, and pilot cohort design.

• Strong knowledge of OS and middleware patching, particularly across Windows and Linux environments.

• Proven experience executing pilot patching waves and transitioning to full production rollouts.

• Deep troubleshooting skills involving FillDB performance, relay/root health, and client evaluation loops.

• Scripting experience using PowerShell and/or Python for automation, reporting, and operational efficiency.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Middleware patching wave success rate of >95% without rollback.

• Patch compliance for critical and high vulnerabilities within defined SLAs (e.g., 14 days).

• Reduction in non-reporting or unhealthy endpoints during pilot and production patching cycles.
