Biomechanics Product Engineer
Contract: Full Time
Location: Remote
Salary Range: $87,831 to $117,109
About Us:
Sony Sports North America’s mission is to provide professional and collegiate teams with game-changing insights into their most valuable asset: their athletes. Through the combined power of Hawk-Eye’s advanced tracking technologies and KinaTrax’s research-grade markerless motion capture systems, we deliver biomechanical performance data that helps teams evaluate, develop, and protect their players. Our systems are deeply embedded across Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball, and NCAA programs — serving as a core part of daily performance, health, and decision-making workflows. Building on our leadership in baseball, we are rapidly expanding our technology ecosystem across other major sports, including but not limited to hockey, basketball, tennis, soccer, and cricket. Our integrated data capture and analysis tools empower athletes, coaches, and performance staff to make informed, data-driven decisions. As a trusted technology partner, Sony Sports North America continues to pioneer the next generation of athlete performance insights, driving innovation and competitive advantage for teams worldwide.
About the Job:
The Biomechanics Product Engineer will work alongside the larger KinaTrax product development team with a focus on improving the biomechanics product quality through development, quality assurance, and operational deployment. This role partners closely with development, data operations, and client teams to oversee biomechanical data workflows, manage feature upgrades, and ensure consistent delivery of validated biomechanical outputs. Core responsibilities include coordinating communication between dev and ops teams for biomechanics data quality, managing client and internal biomechanics requests, and driving continuous improvements in data integrity and workflow efficiency. The position also leads biomechanical QA efforts—overseeing model validation, version control, and testing of new CV model iterations—while contributing to the development of Visual3D models, data management processes, and pipeline optimization. This role combines deep biomechanical expertise with systems-level thinking to ensure reliable, scalable, and scientifically sound biomechanics integration across Sony Sports North America’s technology platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead biomechanics focused customer support initiatives involving our pre-existing and novel biomechanics tooling suite, including but not limited to our biomechanics algorithms, data visualization tools, and API.
Bridge communication between biomechanics development and data operations teams to support biomechanics data processing, model validation, and data QA initiatives.
Oversee biomechanics product and tooling QA, validating model iterations, visualization tools, and data outputs to ensure scientific accuracy and consistency.
Assist with research projects related to novel biomechanical data concepts, improving overall data accuracy/reliability, and helping to establish further use cases and ROI of KinaTrax products.
Assist with strategic planning initiatives related to the entry of biomechanics data solutions for new sports initiatives.
Partner with engineers and researchers to refine biomechanics systems, enhancing data pipelines, model performance, and workflow efficiency across teams.
Maintain a high level of understanding of industry trends both within the applied and research biomechanics space to ensure KinaTrax stays up to date with industry trends.
Assist with other non-biomechanics related product development tasks.
Qualifications:
Graduate degree in Biomechanics, Human Movement Science, Kinesiology, or related field.
Proficient in applied biomechanics, including a high-level understanding of how markerless biomechanics data are applied for player development, injury risk, and scouting decisions.
Proficient with all aspects of motion capture technology, including camera setup, calibration, and third-party integration devices (i.e. force plates).
Experience in programming languages (preferably Visual3D, Python, C++, MySQL, and/or R).
Experience in customer-facing roles within the biomechanics industry, including product explanation, troubleshooting, and workflow guidance.
Ability to translate customer needs into product feedback, collaborating with engineering and product teams to improve biomechanical solutions.
Familiarity with machine learning workflows, including data preprocessing, training, validation, and deployment of models.
Familiarity working with large-scale datasets by leveraging APIs for data extraction, integration, and analysis.
Excellent communication skills for internal collaboration and client-facing technical discussions.
Passion for sports and the use of athlete performance metrics.
Additional Information: This is a remote-based position, but some travel to company locations and client sites may be needed.
