About Aphex

We're the construction planning platform that's replacing outdated spreadsheets with multiplayer tools that delivery teams love. Major contractors like John Holland, CPB Contractors, Acciona, BMD, Seymour Whyte, and McConnell Dowell use Aphex to deliver projects ranging from $50 million to multi-billion dollar megaprojects.

We're the market-leading solution in both Australia and the UK for T1/2 infrastructure contractors. Since launching in the UK in 2019, we've transformed how major contractors plan and build projects. When we expanded to Australia in 2022, we quickly became the go-to platform for major infrastructure and building projects. Today, we're supporting teams building the roads, rail, tunnels, hospitals and buildings that millions of Australians will use every day.

We're tackling an industry that drives 10% of global GDP yet has seen productivity decline for 20 years. It's time for change.

The Role

We're looking for a Business Development Manager to help open doors at Australia's leading building contractors. You'll be the person who sparks conversations with project teams, understands their challenges, and creates opportunities for Aphex to help them deliver better.

This isn't a pure cold-calling role. You'll develop your own opportunities from first contact through to closing your first project with each contractor, then hand off to our Account Executive to grow the relationship enterprise-wide. Think of it as owning the front door: you find the right people, run discovery conversations, and close initial projects that prove what Aphex can do.

You'll work closely with our Account Executive, who'll support you on demos and help you navigate larger opportunities. When you close a project, that customer becomes theirs to expand, but the initial win is yours.

Your progression path: We've designed this role as a launchpad. Within 12 months, high performers will have a clear path to either grow out the BD function within APAC or to progress as an Account Executive, owning the full sales cycle from first meeting to enterprise partnership.

The team you'll join: You'll be the first BD hire in region, a part of our growing APAC team, working alongside experienced Account Executives and Account Managers who've built Aphex into the principal platform for Australian infrastructure.

What You'll Do

  • Find and engage project teams at target contractors through LinkedIn, warm introductions, and targeted outreach.

  • Run discovery conversations to understand how teams currently plan and where Aphex could help

  • Partner with our Account Executive on demos, handling introductions and context while they showcase the product

  • Onboard initial project deployments (typically ~$25k ACV) that prove Aphex's value within a contractor

  • Build relationships with Engineers, Project Managers, and Construction Managers who become internal champions

  • Maintain a focused pipeline of opportunities within a defined list of target contractors and projects

About You

At Aphex, we believe our team should reflect the variety of perspectives in the world we build for. We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every listed requirement—your unique perspective might be exactly what we need.

Essential:

  • You've worked in or around construction, understand how projects run and can talk credibly with site teams

  • You're energised by building relationships, not just hitting activity targets

  • You want closing experience and a path to becoming a full-cycle Account Executive

  • You take ownership of your results and genuinely care about the quality of every interaction

Highly valued:

  • Experience as a BDR/SDR within construction technology

  • Background in construction recruitment (you already know the personas and have a network)

  • BDM experience at a contractor, where you've developed client relationships and won work

  • Track record of hitting targets in a role where quality mattered as much as quantity

  • Construction experience is helpful but not required; you’re excited to learn how major projects operate.

  • Ownership Mentality - You thrive in high-autonomy environments and enjoy taking full accountability for outcomes.

  • Growth Mindset - You're hungry to learn, take on new challenges, and grow with a company scaling internationally.

Not looking for:

  • Pure volume players who measure success by calls made rather than conversations started

  • Someone looking for an easier ride with fewer targets—our expectations are focused but real

  • Candidates who want to come in and change everything—we've built playbooks that work and want someone to master them first

What We Offer

  • Competitive package: $80-100k base + up commission on new projects ($120-140k+ OTE)

  • Clear progression: A genuine path to Account Executive within 12 months for high performers

  • A high-performing team: Join our APAC sales and customer success team who know how to win

  • Flexibility: Remote-first working with access to a convenient WeWork office

  • The right tools: MacBook Pro and a cutting-edge tech stack

  • Genuine development: Ongoing training, learning, and coaching, plus a training allowance

  • Annual offsite: In 2025 our team met for a week in Da Nang, Vietnam - you’ll need to join us to see where we have planned in 2026!

Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Statement

Our company does not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, or other non-merit factors. At Aphex, we believe our team should reflect the variety of perspectives in the world we build for. We've noticed that qualified candidates from underrepresented groups sometimes hesitate to apply unless they meet 100% of the listed requirements, while others might apply when meeting just 60%.

If you're excited about Aphex and believe you have the core skills to succeed in this role, we encourage you to apply - even if you don't check every box in the description. Your unique perspective might be exactly what we need. If you need any accommodations during the interview process, please let us know.

Application and Interview Process

We'll keep this focused and respectful of your time:

  1. Application review (1-2 days) - with the Christmas break, this will commence on 5th January

  2. Video questions (async, ~15 mins of your time)

  3. Interview with hiring manager (30-45 mins)

  4. Meet the team, these can often be a few interview stages (45-60 mins with AE/AM colleagues)

  5. References and offer
