This position is on call, which means that the schedule will be based on the needs of the Center.
- Ensures food preparation is in accordance with planned menus and in sufficient quantities
- Ensures food is properly stored and the proper temperature is maintained in hot and cold food items
- Inspects work areas daily to ensure they are kept well organized and clean including store room, refrigerators, freezers, service areas and dining rooms
- Ensures food is handled in a sanitary manner, including receipt, preparation, and storage, including checking food temperature log daily to ensure appropriate temperature is maintained and logged in accordance with health regulations
- Check equipment daily to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitation techniques are followed
- Notify the Food Service Supervisor and issue work orders for repairs or replacement when necessary
- Assist Supervisor with ordering, stocking, and inventory as needed
- As needed, wash dishes, sweep and mop floors, remove trash, clean and sanitize tables and service areas
- Prepares and cooks meals according to standardized recipes and established food preparation techniques
- Monitors food quality and presentation to ensure high standards are consistently met
- Assists in menu planning and suggests new menu items based on nutritional guidelines and student preferences
- Maintains accurate records of food usage, waste, and costs to support inventory management
- Collaborates with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during meal preparation and service
- Adheres to all food safety regulations and guidelines, including proper labeling and dating of stored items
- Participates in ongoing culinary training and professional development opportunities as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Three to six months related experience and/or training; must be able to make quantitative calculations using both fractional and decimal measure units. Supervisory experience preferred
- One year in Culinary Arts or related field from a college or technical school and/or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Certified degree related to Culinary Arts.
- Valid State Driver's License with acceptable driving history
- Serv-Safe and Food Handling Certification
- Health Certificate with Throat Test
- Puerto Rico Law 300 Certification
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with ability to provide excellent service to students
- Availability for rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
