Credit Controller & Collections Officer - Work From Home

​​A high-profile role with direct reporting to the CFO, this position leads the management of complex billing, progress claims, and critical debtor relationships within a specialised Australian-based architectural construction setting. You will take full ownership of the credit function, ensuring disciplined debtor management, reducing debtor days, and safeguarding cash flow across the project lifecycle. The role requires a confident, authoritative communicator who can engage with clients, internal stakeholders, and C-suite leaders to resolve issues, drive outcomes, and continuously strengthen credit control processes in a fast-paced but low-volume invoice environment.

Credit & Debtor Management

  • Conduct credit risk assessments and recommend credit limits aligned with company policy.
  • Proactively manage outstanding accounts, ensuring debts are paid within agreed terms.
  • Oversee complex invoicing, progress payments, variations, and rework invoices as required.
  • Maintain accurate debtor ledgers, aged receivables reports, and documentation of all collection activity.
  • Identify changes in payment patterns and escalate potential risks early.

Collections & Issue Resolution

  • Confidently follow up overdue accounts via phone and email, applying direct but professional communication.
  • Investigate disputes, payment delays, or billing issues and coordinate rapid resolution with internal teams.
  • Initiate legal collection procedures and coordinate with external legal team.
  • Negotiate payment arrangements where appropriate and secure commitments that support cash flow.
  • Issue reminder notices, credit hold communications, and follow-through actions.

Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting

  • Work closely with finance, project teams, and operations to resolve bottlenecks affecting cash collection.
  • Provide weekly reporting to the CFO on collections performance, risk exposure, and recommended actions.
  • Support month-end processes, including reconciliations, journals, and debtor commentary.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to prevent future debtor issues and strengthen financial controls.

Process & Compliance

  • Maintain disciplined credit control frameworks, documentation, and compliance standards.
  • Set up new customer accounts, review credit applications, and process limit changes.
  • Ensure ERP records, invoices, and payment allocations are accurate and completed in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, commerce, or business
  • 5+ years in Credit Control & Collections, preferably in construction or project-based industries
  • Strong understanding of billing, contract terms, and dispute management
  • Proficient in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced)
  • Experience in credit assessments, managing escalations, and leadership-level reporting
  • Confident and authoritative communicator with strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excels at taking ownership, following through on tasks, and actively reducing debtor days.
  • Highly organized with exceptional discipline in follow-up and accuracy.
  • Able to work independently, prioritize effectively, and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Strong ability to engage stakeholders and interact comfortably with senior leaders and external clients.
  • Results-driven mindset, committed to continuous improvement and financial control.

Note:Recruitment for this role is expected to begin in early January. While we may review applications beforehand, most interviews will take place in the New Year.
