Role: Data Engineer- QA
Hours: 9am - 6pm Eastern Time (Remote)
USD Salary: Negotiable based on experience up to $2500
The Data Engineer - QA is responsible for ensuring data quality and reliability across our analytics ecosystem. This role serves as the first line of defense for identifying, researching, and resolving data issues reported by internal stakeholders. You'll work directly with analysts to validate dashboard accuracy, investigate anomalies, and maintain confidence in our reporting infrastructure.
This is an ideal role for someone early in their data career who is curious, detail-oriented, and energized by solving puzzles in data.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and respond to incoming data quality issues via Slack, ClickUp, and Jira
- Research reported discrepancies by querying source data in Snowflake
- Document root cause findings and coordinate resolution with appropriate teams
- Maintain defined work queue with clear prioritization and SLA adherence
- Perform QA testing on Domo dashboards and dataflows before release
- Validate data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across BI outputs
- Flag discrepancies between expected and actual results with clear documentation
- Support regression testing when upstream data models change
- Create and maintain testing summaries for completed QA cycles
- Manage task tracking in ClickUp and Jira with clear status updates
- Contribute to QA runbooks, checklists, and escalation procedures
- Communicate findings to analysts and stakeholders in plain language
- Work directly with analysts to understand reporting requirements and expected behavior
- Escalate complex or systemic issues to senior data engineering team members
- Participate in team standups and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Basic SQL proficiency (SELECT, JOIN, WHERE, GROUP BY, aggregate functions)
- Ability to analyze large datasets and identify patterns or anomalies
- Experience with BI/reporting tools (Domo preferred, or similar platforms)
- Familiarity with issue tracking systems (Jira, ClickUp, or equivalent)
- Strong written communication skills for documenting findings
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- Experience with Snowflake or cloud data warehouses
- Exposure to DBT (data build tool) concepts
- E-commerce industry experience
- Amazon Retail or Marketplace analytics experience
- Snowflake SnowPro Core certification
- Domo certification
