About the Role

Citizen is entering a new phase of growth, expanding our product suite to help companies and colleges product their people and property. As our first Director of Sales, you’ll lead this motion from the front: setting the go-to-market strategy, managing sales reps, personally closing and renewing large customers, shaping the product, and delivering exceptional results.

This is a builder role. You’ll work closely with executive leadership, product, and marketing to define our enterprise positioning, refine the sales process, and accelerate revenue growth.

If you’ve successfully sold and led in early-stage environments, built sales motions from the ground up, and thrive in both strategic and tactical execution, we’d love to talk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Craft winning go-to-market strategy

  • Hire, develop and lead a team of highly motivated and disciplined sales professionals to support the company’s revenue growth objectives

  • Personally close and manage key customer relationships

  • Exceed all revenue and operating goals, every time

  • Implement CRM and reporting systems, processes and other sales infrastructure to drive sound decision making and operational efficiency

  • Determine appropriate pricing strategies

  • Identify, develop and successfully roll-out new product features and achieve significant and rapid adoption

  • Expand into new markets

  • Monitor customer, market and competitor activity and provide data-based summaries to key stakeholders

  • Work closely with finance function to provide detailed and accurate sales forecasting and cost budgets

  • Collaborate with product function to provide customer feedback and identify product requirements to satisfy customers’ needs

  • Partner with marketing function to establish successful demand generation, trade marketing, channel and partner programs

  • Periodic travel for in-person meetings with customers to close and develop relationships and represent company at industry conferences and trade shows

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

  • 8 to 12+ years of B2B SaaS sales experience, with 2 to 4+ years in a sales management or team lead capacity

  • Proven success closing complex enterprise deals in a fast-paced startup environment (Series B to D stage preferred)

  • Experience building or scaling a new sales motion, not just inheriting one

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by high ownership; thrives in lean environments without heavy enablement

  • Deep familiarity with modern sales tools and methods (HubSpot, Apollo, call coaching tools, enrichment platforms)

  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and executive presence; able to sell value to senior stakeholders

  • Strong operator: disciplined with pipeline, process, and CRM hygiene

  • Passion for Citizen’s mission and building a safer, more informed world

Preferred (Nice-to-Have):

  • Experience selling into physical security, operations, or risk management functions

  • Background in B2B2C or multi-stakeholder sales environments

  • Success launching net-new territories or industry verticals

  • Familiarity with government, education, or critical infrastructure buyers

  • Hands-on experience with call intelligence platforms (e.g., Gong, Orum)

  • Knowledge of compliance, safety tech, or workplace risk trends

  • Comfortable leveraging AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) to improve productivity and messaging

  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional initiatives, especially product feedback, enablement, or ops collaboration
