JOB DESCRIPTION – The Production Engineer is responsible for providing best-in-class live television production support for NBCU, supporting live and scripted/unscripted productions. This position will also support the projects team, where and as required, to implement changes, enhancements, and system upgrades.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support and support maintenance of a broadcast production environment consisting of multiple studios and production control rooms.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in routing, audio, video, intercom, graphics, replay, ingest, and IP/streaming systems during live and recorded productions.
- Support hybrid SDI/IP infrastructures including SMPTE 2110 concepts, multicast, VLANs, and PTP under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Operate and monitor virtualized systems (VMware/Hyper-V) and cloud-enabled production workflows as directed.
- Apply basic understanding of scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to assist with simple automation tasks, troubleshooting, and log review when required.
- Leverage foundational exposure to monitoring tools (DataMiner, Datadog, NewRelic, Op5, Grafana) to support system health checks and identify performance anomalies.
- Support contribution workflows including SRT, NDI, Dante/AES67, and IP-based transport for remote and cloud-based productions.
- Provide basic support for field productions, remote sets, temporary control rooms, or event-based deployments when required.
- Collaborate effectively with engineering, production, and IT teams across local and remote (Mexico/Miami) operations.
- Document SOPs, workflows, diagrams, inventory, and system configurations following NBCU O&T standards.
- Adhere to technical security best practices (access control, patching, device hygiene, network safety).
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related fields, or equivalent work experience.
- 2–3 years of recent experience supporting live production, streaming, broadcast, or other mission-critical technical environments.
- Solid knowledge of SDI-based production workflows and foundational understanding of IP-based media transport.
- Basic knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems within a technical environment.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (VLANs, multicast, routing, PTP) with willingness to deepen IP production skills.
- Ability to work with SRT, NDI, Dante/AES67, LiveU, bonded cellular and other contribution tools.
- Strong customer service orientation and professionalism, especially under time-critical conditions.
- Strong documentation discipline and adherence to standards.
- Willingness to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays with little or no notice depending on production schedules.
- Strong interest in continuous learning across broadcast, IT, cloud, and emerging technologies.
- English - Intermediate.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Experience with AWS Media Services, Azure, AMPP, Viz Now, or cloud-based production environments.
- Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, containers, or microservice-based workflows.
- Experience building dashboards via Prometheus/Grafana or similar observability stacks.
- Familiarity with Vizrt, Ross XPression, EVS, Evertz, or similar major broadcast ecosystems.
- Ability to support or build automation workflows using scripts or APIs.
- Experience collaborating with remote international teams and adapting to multicultural environments.
- Ability to work under high stress during fast-paced live productions while maintaining clarity and professionalism.
- Ability to leverage AI-based tools to improve troubleshooting efficiency, documentation speed, and operational consistency.
