As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of ~8 engineers (long-term target). The team is responsible for: - The central listings database - Backend APIs serving internal and external consumers - Integrations with hundreds of external data providers - Data validation, enrichment, and quality systems - Reliable distribution of listings to downstream systems
This includes ownership of the full data lifecycle: ingestion, validation, enrichment, storage, and distribution.
What you’ll do:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, ensuring strong performance and growth
- Act as a strong technical leader in architecture and system design discussions
- Drive high engineering standards with a strong focus on operational excellence
- Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of a Tier-1 system
- Collaborate closely with Product to shape and deliver the roadmap
- Partner with central engineering teams to define and drive the technical strategy
- Contribute to cross-team and company-wide initiatives
Technical environment:
- Backend-focused system with minimal frontend components
- Primary language: Java (with ongoing migration away from Scala)
- Object-oriented architecture and services
- Kafka for event streaming and data pipelines
- AWS-based infrastructure and hosting
- PostgreSQL as core database
What you’ll bring:
- 5+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager
- 5+ years of prior experience as a software engineer (hands-on background required)
- Strong technical foundation with a proven engineering track record
- Experience with object-oriented programming (preferably Java or C#/.NET)
- Ability to lead technical discussions and guide architectural decisions
- Strong focus on engineering excellence, reliability, and operational quality
