About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to support the pricing and cost planning of civil and concrete projects including asphalt roads, drainage works, pits, curb and gutter construction.
This role will focus on full estimating and quantity take-offs. All tender submissions will remain the responsibility of the owner. The Estimator will prepare complete pricing documentation to support accurate and competitive bids. All estimating will be completed using Excel spreadsheets (no CRM systems).
Full Project Estimating
Prepare detailed cost estimates for asphalt roadworks, drainage, pits, curb and gutter projectsAnalyse drawings, specifications, and project documentationCalculate labour, plant, material, and subcontractor costs
Quantity Take-Offs
Perform accurate quantity take-offs from engineering drawingsMeasure and document earthworks, drainage lines, kerbing, asphalt volumes, and associated worksProvide clear breakdowns for pricing sheets
Cost Build-Ups & Pricing Sheets
Develop structured Excel-based pricing modelsBreak down rates for labour, equipment, materials, and overheadsMaintain consistency across estimating templates
Subcontractor & Supplier Comparison
Assist with compiling supplier and subcontractor pricingPrepare comparison spreadsheets for review by the owner
Scope Review & Risk Identification
Identify scope gaps, exclusions, or ambiguities within drawingsHighlight risks, provisional items, and potential cost exposures
Documentation & Version Control
Maintain organised estimating recordsTrack revisions and pricing adjustmentsEnsure accuracy and auditability of all spreadsheets

Required Skills and Experience
Civil engineering qualification preferred, or strong practical experience in civil/concrete estimatingExperience estimating asphalt roads, drainage, pits, curb and gutter worksAdvanced Excel skills essentialAbility to read and interpret civil engineering drawingsHigh attention to detail and accuracyExperience with Australian civil construction standards preferred
