The Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) is seeking a proactive and detail‑driven Finance Analyst to support our Finance Business Partnering (FBP) team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys analytical work, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is motivated by contributing to decisions that shape organisational performance and strategy.
As part of AFCA’s Finance team, you will play a key role in delivering insightful financial reporting, analysis, and operational support that helps us deliver fair, independent and effective outcomes for the community.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance Business Partnering & Transformation, you will support the FBP team across month‑end, budgeting, forecasting and analytical activities. You will also collaborate closely with the Finance Operations team on reconciliation, system maintenance and audit requirements. This role provides broad exposure across the organisation, engaging with senior leaders, operational teams, IT & Data, and external stakeholders.
This is an initial 12-month contract.
Key responsibilities
Financial Business Partnering
- Prepare and process monthly journals, including accruals and reallocations.
- Contribute to month‑end reporting, including preparing stakeholder meeting packs and variance analysis.
- Support annual planning and quarterly reforecast cycles, including preparing budgeting templates and analysis.
- Assist in creating reports that highlight current and future operational needs, risks and opportunities, across revenue, cost, workforce and productivity metrics.
- Support the development and maintenance of financial models and KPI reporting dashboards.
- Conduct organisation‑wide revenue and expense analysis to identify trends and commercial insights.
- Maintain detailed process documentation for key reporting activities.
- Assist in preparing analysis for business cases.
Other duties
- Support ERP (D365 FinOps) maintenance, including system testing, data migration and process improvement.
- Assist Finance Operations with month‑end close and audit activities.
- Build positive working relationships across the organisation and represent AFCA’s values in every interaction.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to enhance service delivery and process efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, legislation and guidelines.
- Undertake additional duties as reasonably required.
Qualifications
About you
You are analytical, curious and comfortable working with both detail and big‑picture insights. You enjoy solving problems, improving processes, and partnering with stakeholders to support better business decisions.
Essential skills & experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related discipline.
- CPA/CA qualification (or working towards) desirable but not essential.
- Strong numeracy, accuracy and analytical capabilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency in financial systems such as Microsoft D365 FinOps, SAP or Oracle.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong capability across the Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial insights for non‑financial audiences.
- Self‑motivated, adaptable and able to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- High ethical standards and confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information.
