Role Summary
The Finance Controller is a control-focused role responsible for strengthening financial discipline, internal controls, and reporting accuracy across Degas’ operations.
Acting as the second line of defense in Finance, this role ensures that accounting records are accurate, reconciliations are complete, documentation is robust, and financial processes comply with Degas Group policies and audit requirements. The Finance Controller supervises and reviews the work of accountants, reinforces segregation of duties, and provides early visibility of risks to the Head of Finance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Review

Oversee and validate accounting records, journal entries, and reconciliations.

Ensure all postings are accurate, properly supported, and compliant with internal policies.

Review bank, supplier, customer, and inventory reconciliations and follow up on variances.

Conduct spot checks and sample testing to identify control gaps and risks.
Accounts Payable, Receivable & Treasury Controls

Supervise AP and AR processes, ensuring clear segregation of duties.

Review payment files and supporting documentation before execution.

Ensure approvals follow documented workflows and internal control requirements.
Month-End Close & Reporting

Support the preparation and review of monthly financial statements.

Ensure discipline and consistency in the month-end closing process.

Collaborate with FP&A on management reporting and variance explanations.
Compliance & Audit Support

Ensure compliance with Degas Group financial policies and local statutory requirements.

Support tax filings and statutory submissions in coordination with external advisors.

Prepare schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
Documentation & Process Discipline

Drive proper documentation and filing standards (digital and physical).

Document finance processes and SOPs to ensure business continuity and knowledge retention.
Operational Coordination

Work closely with Operations and Warehouse teams to validate GRNs, waybills, stock reports, and inventory movements.

Support resolution of discrepancies with clear data, documentation, and follow-up.
Qualifications & Skills
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.

3–6 years of experience in audit or controlling roles (Big 4, mid-tier audit, or finance roles in FMCG, agribusiness, manufacturing, logistics or related).

Strong exposure to internal controls, compliance, reconciliations, and process reviews.

Experience reviewing or supervising the work of accountants.

Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and balance sheet control.

Very strong reconciliation skills.

Good understanding of internal control and audit methodologies.

Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
-
Detail-oriented, disciplined, and control-focused mindset.

Confident in challenging inconsistencies while maintaining constructive relationships.
