As a Fire Detection System Engineer, you will join Bristol  team to support our activities within the Nuclear sector. 

You’ll be responsible for driving the successful technical and contractual delivery of complex fire detection systems within a major energy infrastructure project. You’ll act as the key link between engineering, procurement, suppliers, and the client — ensuring all systems are designed, built, and commissioned safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Your work will help safeguard one of the UK’s most safety-critical environments, supporting the integration of advanced fire protection technologies across nuclear facilities.

  • Clearance: BPSS 
  • Experience Level:  4- 10 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the engineering lifecycle of fire detection and alarm systems — from technical specification to site installation and acceptance.
  • Coordinate the interface between design, safety, and systems engineering teams, ensuring consistent technical alignment.
  • Drive supplier engagement and performance tracking, ensuring deliverables meet design intent, regulatory standards, and project milestones.
  • Lead engineering reviews, validating design documentation, drawings, and compliance evidence against contractual and safety requirements.
  • Support the management of project risks, engineering changes, and configuration updates, maintaining traceability across all project phases.
  • Facilitate clear communication between internal stakeholders, contractors, and client representatives to resolve technical or schedule challenges early.
  • Champion best practice in safety, quality assurance, and continuous improvement across all fire detection system activities.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience delivering fire detection or fire protection systems within large industrial, nuclear, or energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of technical documentation control, design assurance, and change management.
  • Knowledge of UK and international fire or safety standards (e.g., BS 5839, NFPA, IEC).

Required Qualifications:

  • A degree in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, Process, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline, or equivalent military experience

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience within nuclear, energy, or large infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with UK and international fire protection standards (e.g. BS 5839, NFPA, IEC).
  • Knowledge of process instrumentation, control systems, or electrical schematics.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 45001, or equivalent safety and quality frameworks.
  • Experience managing or auditing equipment suppliers on technical compliance and documentation quality.
