The First AD will assist the Director by coordinating all production activity and supervising the cast and crew. The First AD will also be in charge of a department of other Assistant Directors and Runners. Primary duties and responsibilities will be to:
• Create the filming schedule, working in careful consultation with the Director.
• Factor budget, cast availability and script coverage when drawing up the shooting schedule
• Prepare the storyboard
• Oversee the selection of locations, props and equipment
• Drive film schedule forward with frequent announcements and directions to coordinate cast and crew
• Control discipline on the set, supervise the other Assistant Directors and oversee the preparation of the daily call sheet
• Eliminate or minimise hazards on set or location
Qualifications and competencies include:
• Bachelor degree in Media, Fine Arts, Management or related field, or at least 6 years’ production experience
• At least 2 years’ experience in a managerial position
• In-depth knowledge of, and relevant qualifications in, current health and safety legislation and procedures
• Ability to be an authoritative yet approachable team-leader and motivator
• Exceptional organisational and time-management skills
• Ability to multitask and prioritise effectively
• Strong troubleshooting skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to manage crisis situations
