Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Back-End Focused)

Location: New York City (Hybrid)

Compensation: $150K - $215K

We are looking for a creative, back-end focused engineer to help us architect, build, and maintain our increasingly dynamic web creative tooling experiences. You are a driven developer who enjoys critically thinking about the best ways to build a new product, taking full ownership of a brand-new extensible codebase, and bringing fresh ideas to our platform.

In this role, you will build and own core platform services, design scalable APIs, and shape our data infrastructure. You are an "endless experimenter" with a focus on AI coding tools, agents, and automation to amplify engineering velocity. Most importantly, you relish the startup pace, embrace ambiguity, and love collaborating with a team of domain experts to iterate through complex problems.

What you’ll do:

• Architect & Build: Develop and maintain core backend services, APIs, and data layers that power our core user experience.
• End-to-End Ownership: Partner with product, design, and data teams to define and deliver features from concept to production.
• Scalability: Design secure and observable systems capable of supporting rapid user growth and evolving service boundaries.
• Full-Stack Contribution: While back-end focused, you will contribute across the stack (including React) to ensure a seamless end-user experience.
• Velocity & AI: Drive CI/CD and infrastructure automation. You will actively leverage and experiment with AI-assisted coding tools, agents, and workflows to accelerate delivery and quality.
• Evolution: Help evolve our technical architecture with strong opinions on modular design and modern API standards.

Requirements

• Experience: 4+ years of professional engineering experience, specifically within startup environments where you’ve shipped products from idea to reality.
• Back-End Mastery: Strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript with a proven track record of building robust APIs and services.
• Data Expertise: Proficiency with modern databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), data modeling, and performance optimization.
• Full-Stack Capability: Experience with front-end technologies (e.g., React, modern JS) and the ability to move across the stack when needed.
• Cloud & DevOps: Comfortable with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, serverless, or containers) and managing CI/CD pipelines.
• AI-Forward Mindset: A history of using, customizing, and integrating AI coding tools, code generation, or developer automation in production workflows.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
