About the Team

The Discovery Across Fix & Freestyle team is responsible for reimagining how clients discover, engage, and shop across Stitch Fix. We work closely with our product, design, UX, data science, data engineering and iOS partners using data to innovate and refine our product. We operate in an agile-inspired manner across multiple time zones within the United States. If you’re looking for client obsessed, high profile and impactful work, this team is for you.

About the Role

Stitch Fix’s Discovery Across Fix & Freestyle Engineering team is looking for a curious, empathetic, and self-aware Lead Engineer experienced in front-end development and comfortable in back-end systems. You will be working with a diverse team of full-stack engineers with varied backgrounds who thrive in a collaborative environment. We operate in an agile-inspired manner across multiple time zones within the United States, with full support for remote work. We build software with modern techniques like TDD, continuous delivery, DevOps, AI, and service-oriented architecture. We focus on high-value solutions for clearly identified problems that are designed in a sustainable way and deliver long term value.

You are excited about this opportunity because you will...

  • Be an engaged member of the engineering team—leading meetings, attending ceremonies, contributing to technical design documents, and pairing with other engineers.
  • Lead the execution of complex projects within the Discovery team or across multiple engineering teams, collaborating closely with product, design, UX, and data science partners.
  • Build features that help clients discover and engage with Stitch Fix—from personalized home feed experiences to surfaces that strengthen the connection between Fix and Freestyle shopping.
  • Work on high-visibility problems that directly impact retention and engagement for millions of clients.
  • Break down projects into actionable milestones and deliver sustainable results against measurable goals.
  • Proactively communicate status updates, scope changes, and timeline shifts to teammates, stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Provide technical leadership through mentorship, pairing, timely feedback, and code reviews that encourage the growth of your teammates.
  • Actively invest in the professional development and career growth of your teammates.
  • Use data to frame business problems and inform technical decisions.
  • Influence other engineers toward right-sized solutions that balance quality with pragmatism.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and improve the on-call experience for others.

We are excited about you because...

  • You have at least five years of professional software development experience, including at least a year in a technical leadership role.
  • You're excited about solving problems with front-end technologies—TypeScript, Next.js, React, and CSS/Sass.
  • You have worked extensively with back-end frameworks, preferably Ruby on Rails (although we'll consider strong experience in other frameworks).
  • You have experience with GraphQL and Apollo, both consuming APIs and designing schemas.
  • You set clear priorities and communicate them openly with your team and partners.
  • You enjoy mentoring other engineers and creating space for them to grow.
  • You enjoy leading technical planning and design, and you're pragmatic about weighing scope against value.
  • You enjoy collaborating with product and design partners to shape features, not just implement them.
  • You believe strong teams are built on trust, honesty, and clear communication.
  • You're curious, kind, and motivated by challenges.
  • You focus on what's right for the client.
  • You care about building quality—including accessible experiences that work for users of all abilities.
  • You appreciate the value of design systems and consistent, reusable components.
