Headache Medicine Neurologist (MD/DO)

Position Summary

The Headache Medicine Neurologist provides specialized neurologic care focused on the evaluation, diagnosis, and long-term management of primary and secondary headache disorders. This role emphasizes evidence-based treatment, procedural therapies, and multidisciplinary collaboration to improve quality of life for patients with acute and chronic headache conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage patients with headache disorders including migraine, tension-type headache, cluster headache, trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias, and other facial pain syndromes
  • Diagnose and manage secondary headache conditions and coordinate appropriate diagnostic evaluation
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans utilizing preventive, abortive, and rescue therapies
  • Manage pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic headache treatments
  • Perform office-based procedures consistent with training and privileges, such as onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox) injections, peripheral nerve blocks, and trigger point injections
  • Interpret relevant diagnostic studies including neuroimaging and laboratory results
  • Provide outpatient headache clinic care and inpatient neurology or headache consultation services as needed
  • Collaborate with primary care providers, pain management, behavioral health, sleep medicine, physical therapy, and other neurology subspecialties
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment strategies, medication use, and lifestyle modification
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiatives
  • Supervise and educate residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, or trainees as applicable
  • Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited Neurology residency program
  • Fellowship training in Headache Medicine preferred
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Neurology
  • Board certification or eligibility in Headache Medicine preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
  • DEA registration or eligibility

Work Environment

  • Manual dexterity for neurologic examinations and office-based procedures
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment and diagnostic interpretation
