Position Overview:
We are seeking a Integration Engineer Level 2 with foundational knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, Epic, and REST APIs, along with hands-on exposure to Mirth Connect (NextGen Connect). The candidate will support the building, testing, deployment, and maintenance of interfaces that enable seamless data exchange between EHR/EMR systems and other healthcare applications.
Responsibilities:
1. Interface Development (Mirth Connect)
- Assist in designing, developing, and configuring Mirth Connect channels for HL7, FHIR, REST API integrations, and other custom interoperability workflows to enable secure and efficient data exchange.
- Implement message transformations using JavaScript, mapping HL7/V2, JSON, XML, and FHIR resources.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and debug Mirth channels, connectors, filters, and transforms.
- Support deployment, versioning, and maintenance of live interfaces.
2. Healthcare Interoperability (HL7 / FHIR /EPIC/ APIs)
- Work with HL7 v2.x messages (ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, etc.) — parsing, mapping, validation, and testing.
- Assist with FHIR RESTful API integrations, including GET/POST/PUT/PATCH operations, authentication, and resource mapping (Patient, Observation, Encounter, etc.).
- Perform JSON/XML schema validation and confirm compliance with interoperability specifications.
- Participate in HL7/FHIR data workflows for labs, imaging, admissions, scheduling, referrals, and clinical documentation.
3. Integration Support & Testing
- Participate in integration testing (unit tests, message validation, end-to-end workflow testing).
- Analyze error logs, identify issues, and support corrective actions.
- Support integration-related tickets from internal teams, clinical staff, and vendors.
- Create test cases and validate data flow across multiple systems.
4. Documentation & Collaboration
- Help create and maintain interface specifications, mapping rules, API documentation, and architecture diagrams.
- Work closely with senior engineers, EHR analysts, QA, DevOps, and healthcare partners.
- Assist in gathering requirements and translating them into technical tasks.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Hands-on experience using Mirth Connect / NextGen Connect.
- Understanding of:
- OAuth2 / JWT authentication (for FHIR APIs)
- CDA / CCD / CCDA documents
- Healthcare terminologies (LOINC, ICD, SNOMED CT)
- Exposure to cloud-based integration or APIs (AWS/Azure/GCP).
- Interest in EHR/EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Athena, OpenMRS, etc.).
- Knowledge of scripting or programming languages (JavaScript preferred for Mirth; Python/Java is a plus).
- Familiarity with relational databases and SQL.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as an EHR Integration Engineer.Proven hands-on experience in developing and implementing EHR integration solutions using Mirth Connect.
- Experience on JavaScript, mapping HL7/V2, JSON, XML, and FHIR resources.
- Understanding of healthcare security and authentication standards such as OAuth2 and JWT (especially for FHIR APIs).
- Knowledge of healthcare document standards including CDA, CCD, and CCDA.
- Familiarity with healthcare terminologies such as LOINC, ICD, and SNOMED CT.
- Exposure to cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP for API or integration-related work.
- Experience with major EHR/EMR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Athena, OpenMRS, or similar systems.
- Working knowledge of scripting or programming languages (JavaScript preferred for Mirth; Python or Java is a plus).
- Familiarity with relational databases and SQL for data mapping and validation.
- Demonstrated ability to optimize code and maintain high-quality, reliable codebases
