As a Java Engineer, you will play a critical role in delivering scalable and high-quality solutions for a customer-facing SaaS platform. You will work closely with delivery, product, and engineering teams to implement tailored client configurations, extend existing services, and ensure seamless deployment of the underwriting workbench. This role involves building backend services, microservices, and APIs using modern Java technologies, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize performance and reliability. You will contribute to improving delivery processes, maintaining code quality, and troubleshooting issues, ensuring customers receive robust and efficient solutions. The position offers the chance to make a tangible impact on the platform and directly influence client success.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services in Java using Spring Boot and related frameworks
  • Build scalable and performant microservices for SaaS applications
  • Work with relational databases, primarily MySQL, for data management and storage
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality features
  • Write and maintain unit and integration tests using JUnit, Spock, or Cucumber
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues to ensure platform stability and reliability
  • Improve CI/CD pipelines and support deployment automation
  • Contribute to architectural discussions to enhance platform scalability and performance
  • Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience as a Java Engineer, with strong backend development skills
  • Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, JPA, and Hibernate
  • Experience with relational databases, preferably MySQL
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and best practices
  • Solid understanding of software development best practices, including testing and code quality
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote-first environment while contributing to a team-oriented culture
  • Nice-to-Haves:
  • Experience with AWS and cloud-based infrastructure
  • Familiarity with Apache Camel, Docker, Kubernetes, or DevOps tools
  • Previous experience in the insurance industry or with insurance-related software
