About the role

The Marine Logistics team sits at the heart of ferry operations, optimising vessel allocation and crew resourcing to deliver a seamless network for customers, communities and stakeholders.


Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will lead a team of 8 Logistics Specialists and play a key role within the Marine Operations Leadership Group, contributing both operationally and strategically to network performance, safety and continuous improvement.


Key responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day marine logistics operations across the ferry network, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient service delivery
  • Optimise vessel allocation and crew resourcing to meet performance, cost and safety targets
  • Manage real-time operational exceptions including weather events, vessel issues, fatigue risks and service disruptions
  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of Logistics Specialists
  • Build a strong safety-first, inclusive and accountable team culture
  • Work closely with Auckland Transport and internal stakeholders to deliver operational excellence
  • Ensure clear, timely operational communications and customer service alerts
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reliability and network performance
  • Ensure accurate operational reporting, KPI tracking and contractual compliance


About you

You’re calm under pressure, decisive, and confident leading teams through complex operational challenges. You bring a balance of people leadership, data-driven decision-making and strong stakeholder management.


You’ll ideally bring:

  • Proven experience in operational management within large, complex environments, including leading and developing teams (ideally 5+ years in logistics or operations leadership)
  • Strong data capability, particularly in Excel and operational reporting
  • Experience working to strict deadlines in dynamic, high-change environments
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence at senior levels
  • A strong understanding of customer service principles
  • Experience with workforce management systems (e.g. HumanForce or similar) is an advantage
