The Marine Technical Lead will provide technical leadership and oversight for all marine-related operations supporting offshore and nearshore oil and gas projects. The role is responsible for ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution of marine activities, including vessel operations, marine logistics, offshore construction support, and interface management with engineering and project teams.
This position serves as the technical authority for marine operations, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, company procedures, and international marine standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and direction for all marine operations in support of oil and gas projects, both offshore and nearshore.
Plan, coordinate, and supervise marine activities including vessel deployment, offshore logistics, marine construction support, and cargo handling.
Ensure compliance with applicable marine regulations, international standards, client specifications, and company procedures.
Act as the primary technical interface between marine contractors, vessel owners, project teams, and clients.
Review and approve marine-related documents including Marine Execution Plans, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and Operational Procedures.
Monitor marine operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, proactively identifying risks and recommending mitigation measures.
Lead marine assurance activities, audits, inspections, and vessel suitability assessments.
Support project planning and scheduling by providing marine technical input to ensure optimal vessel utilization and execution sequencing.
Ensure incidents, near-misses, and non-conformances are properly investigated, reported, and closed out with corrective actions.
Provide technical support during offshore installation, hook-up, and commissioning activities as required.
Prepare and submit regular technical reports, operational updates, and recommendations to management.
Promote and enforce a strong HSE culture across all marine operations in line with company and client HSE objectives.
Mentor and support junior marine and offshore personnel, fostering technical competence and operational excellence.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Naval Architecture, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 10–12 years relevant experience in marine operations within the oil and gas industry.
Proven experience in a marine technical leadership or senior marine role on offshore or marine-based projects.
Strong knowledge of international marine regulations and standards (IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, Class requirements, etc.).
Hands-on experience with offshore support vessels, marine logistics, and marine construction support operations.
Excellent leadership, coordination, and decision-making skills.
Strong reporting, documentation, and stakeholder management abilities.
High level of commitment to safety, operational discipline, and quality delivery.
Willingness to travel and work offshore or at project sites as required.
Experience with DP (Dynamic Positioning) vessels and offshore construction barges is a distinct advantage.
