Medical Director, Palliative Care Program

The Medical Director of the Palliative Care Program provides clinical, operational, and strategic leadership to ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered palliative care services. The Medical Director partners with the interdisciplinary team to expand program reach, maintain compliance, and strengthen stakeholder relationships while fostering a supportive environment for staff and learners. As a UCSF Affiliate, our team is privileged to train the next generation of HPM doctors as part of the faculty, for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship. 

Schedule:

Monday - Friday; 8:30am - 5:00pm; Work from home most days

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Clinical & Program Leadership

• Provide overall medical leadership to the Palliative Care Program and two NPs
• Oversee delivery of high-quality, evidence-based palliative care in alignment with IDT

Team Management & Development

• Lead, mentor, and evaluate physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary staff within the program
• Foster a culture of collaboration, respect, and continuous learning

Quality, Compliance & Operations

• Monitor program quality metrics, clinical outcomes, and patient satisfaction
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies

Additional Responsibilities

• GIP Program Oversight: Provide clinical leadership for General Inpatient (GIP) programs, supporting GIP, providing direct patient care and ensuring compliance, quality, and patient-centered care delivery
• UCSF HPM Fellowship Preceptor: Serve as a preceptor for Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellows rotating through the program, fostering clinical skills, professional growth, and mentorship

Education/Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of clinical palliative care experience, with leadership experience strongly preferred
• Has demonstrated expertise in interdisciplinary team management and program development
• Strong communication skills, with ability to engage diverse stakeholders and advocate for palliative care services

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine

Pay Range:
$139.00 - $144.00 hourly
