The Opportunity

Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the C3 Supervisor or Director of Care, the Health Care Aide (HCA) is an unregulated member of the interprofessional health care team who provides ongoing client care. The HCA, also known as a Nursing Attendant (NA), provides direct care to assist the activities of daily living, observes, monitors and reports on client status/condition including changes in physical and emotional status.

The HCA ensures that changes in client status are reported to the appropriate interdisciplinary team-Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Allied Health (PT/OT/TA/SW). In keeping with Carewest’s Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care and Carewest policies this position always maintains professional and ethical standards. Responsible for other related duties as required.

Program Summary: Comprehensive Community Care (C3) Program – is a long-term maintenance and support program for older adults. The C3 program is uniquely modelled to support vulnerable, older adults residing in the community by providing timely, comprehensive medical care that is integrated seamlessly across a wide spectrum of services. Services include recreation/social programs, physical maintenance rehabilitation, primary medical care, and pharmacy services.

Qualifications & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required, plus graduation from an Alberta Government recognized Health Care Aide program.
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English is required.
- Must be physically capable of managing the frequent lifting, transferring and repositioning of clients.
- Strong preferences for applicants who have interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to implement recreation programs.
- Active and current registration in the Alberta HCA Directory required.
- Driver’s license required.
- Related experience in a health care facility is an asset.
- Program specific training/experience is an asset.
