About the role
We’re looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist/Analyst to join our small, but mighty Finance Team. In this role, you will report directly to our VP, Finance and play a crucial part in ensuring smooth payroll operations and compliance at Semgrep. As Semgrep’s Payroll Specialist/Analyst , you will be responsible for processing payroll, managing payroll taxes, administering equity, and ensuring all employees are compensated accurately and on time. You will work closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll processes align with business needs and legal requirements.
This role will require you to manage payroll for US and International team members, oversee payroll system integrations, and address any payroll discrepancies. You will thrive in this role if you have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage sensitive data. You will also play a key role in implementing improvements to payroll processes and ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, and international regulations.
Location expectations:
Our expectation is that this role will be based in the Bay Area with the ability to come into our San Francisco office 2+ days a week.

What you’ll do
Own payroll operations and processing in our payroll system (Rippling), for all global locations, preparing payroll account reconciliations and JEs, and ensuring month end close are completed timely and in compliance
Create controls, processes, and communications, and ensure each pay cycle is processed accurately and timely
Process associated payroll taxes and payment of employee benefits, including payroll and benefits reconciliations and equity transactions (e.g., ISO, NSO)
Set up new tax jurisdictions, including withholding, unemployment, worker’s compensation, and disability accounts where applicable
Partner cross-functionally to optimize and automate our processes, including being a key player in the data feed between payroll system and ERP
Own employee equity administration, including preparing grant lists for board approval, processing exercises, and responding to employee inquiries
Reconcile benefits deductions, workers compensation, employee 401(k) contributions, and process wage garnishments
Research and provide best practices opinions regarding payroll practices and payroll tax and benefits compliances
You are ideal for this role if you have
2+ years of payroll processing and compliance experience
Excellent problem solving skills, strong business judgment, and the ability to communicate risks and suggestions
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality over sensitive information, including employee data
Experience processing multi-state payroll and/or managing EOR services
Experience with tax withholdings and processing related to equity transactions (e.g. ISO, NSO, RSU)
Experience working with tax jurisdictions, workers comp reporting and invoicing
Compensation
The estimated starting annual salary range for this position is $101,500 to $119,500 USD. The actual base salary will be determined based on a number of factors, which may include job-related skills, relevant experience, qualifications, location, internal equity, and market data. In addition to base salary, total compensation may include equity, variable compensation, and benefits. We view equity as a meaningful part of our compensation philosophy and a way for employees to share in the long-term value they help create. Compensation ranges are reviewed regularly and may be adjusted as the role, individual performance, or market conditions evolve.
