Supervise and coordinate plating operations to ensure smooth execution of projects and high-quality output. Lead and motivate the plating team, acting as a role model for safety, professionalism, and performance.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Health & Safety
- Enforce all control of work processes including COSHH, Manual Handling, and Confined Space protocols.
- Conduct safety briefings, risk assessments, and toolbox talks specific to plating operations.
- Suspend or restrict activities if safety standards are compromised.
Quality
- Ensure plating activities comply with project specifications and quality plans.
- Coordinate with QA/QC for inspections and documentation (e.g., plating logs, visual inspections).
- Perform in-process checks: alignment, fit-up, bevel angles, root gaps.
- Support root cause analysis for recurring plating defects and drive continuous improvement.
- Promote quality awareness through training and daily engagement.
Technical/Operations
- Provide technical guidance on plating techniques.
- Ensure correct use and maintenance of plating equipment and tooling.
- Track team hours and project progress accurately.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to plating operations.
People Management
- Manage team performance, absence, and development.
- Lead recruitment and onboarding for plating team members.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and performance reviews.
- Handle disciplinary and grievance procedures where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Apprenticeship or advanced qualification in Fabrication or equivalent experience.
- Previous supervisory experience
- Experienced Plater in a heavy engineering/fabrication industry
- Good people management skills
