Test Automation Architect in aviation is responsible for designing and implementing scalable, robust, and performance-driven test automation frameworks for mission-critical aviation platforms such as Crew Management Systems, Flight Operations, and Passenger Services. This role ensures quality at speed by leveraging modern tools like K6 for performance testing and Playwright for end-to-end functional automation.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Strategy & Framework Design
o Define enterprise-wide test automation strategy for aviation
applications (web, mobile, APIs).
o Architect reusable frameworks using Playwright for functional/UI
automation and K6 for performance/load testing.
o Establish best practices for test data management, parallel
execution, and CI/CD integration.
Performance & Reliability Testing
o Implement K6-based performance testing for critical aviation
workflows (crew scheduling, flight planning).
o Define SLAs/SLOs for response times and throughput; integrate
performance metrics into observability dashboards.
Integration & amp; DevOps
o Embed automation suites into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins.
o Collaborate with DevOps teams to enable shift-left testing and automated quality gates.
Governance & Compliance
o Ensure test frameworks comply with aviation safety standards and regulatory requirements (FAA/EASA).
o Maintain traceability and evidence for audits and certification processes.
Collaboration & Leadership
o Work closely with QA engineers, developers, and product owners to align automation with business priorities.
o Mentor teams on advanced automation practices and performance engineering.
Requirements
Skills Required-Technical Skills
Automation Tools: Playwright (JavaScript/TypeScript), K6 for performance testing.
Programming Languages: JavaScript/TypeScript, Python (for scripting and utilities).
CI/CD Integration: GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins.
Performance Engineering: Load, stress, and endurance testing using K6; analysis of metrics and bottlenecks.
Cloud & Containers: Familiarity with Azure/AWS environments, Docker, Kubernetes.
Observability: Integration with Prometheus, Grafana for performance dashboards.
Domain Knowledge
Aviation systems (Crew Scheduling, Flight Ops, Passenger Services).
FAA/EASA compliance and safety-critical testing standards.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
Ability to lead QA automation initiatives and mentor teams.
Preferred Certifications
ISTQB Advanced Test Automation Engineer.

Experience
8–12+ years in QA and test automation roles.
3–5 years in architecting automation frameworks for enterprise applications.
