Job Summary

As a Principal Product Designer, you will lead design strategies across our product initiatives, applying design thinking to every stage of the product lifecycle. You will uncover and validate customer needs through research, testing, and direct engagement, ensuring that these insights guide the solutions we create.

Your work will extend beyond creating beautiful interfaces to ensuring that teams solve the right problems, that solutions are rooted in a deep understanding of customer needs, and that every release delivers a high level of usability and polish. You will guide design from early discovery through refinement and launch, making certain each experience supports the overall product vision and advances our long-term strategy.

This role requires an experienced design leader who excels at turning customer insights into impactful user experiences, who can champion the “why” behind the work, and who can inspire teams to pursue quality and innovation over producing features for their own sake.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Define and lead design strategies for high‑impact product initiatives in alignment with the product vision and business goals
  • Drive discovery of customer needs through research, usability testing, and direct engagement, ensuring insights guide product direction
  • Maintain and evolve OpenEye’s design strategy for consistency, scalability, and usability, and alignment with business objectives
  • Oversee complex design projects from concept through launch, ensuring engineering‑ready deliverables meet quality standards before development or release
  • Mentor and develop junior Product Designers and coach the broader product team in design thinking and best practices
  • Partner with Product Management, Engineering, and QA to ensure alignment of customer needs, business objectives, and technical feasibility
  • Ensure feedback from stakeholders and users is integrated into design iterations and post‑launch improvements
  • Review UX changes for adherence to design standards and usability principles
  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitor offerings, and emerging technologies to inspire innovation
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, or a related field
  • 7+ years of professional experience in product design, including senior or higher leadership roles
  • Proven track record of leading end‑to‑end product design for complex software applications from concept through delivery
  • Strong portfolio showing designs that address validated customer problems and deliver measurable impact
  • Demonstrated experience directly leading customer discovery efforts, including research planning, usability testing, and firsthand engagement with end users
  • Deep understanding of user‑centered methodologies, usability principles, and accessibility  standards
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate the rationale behind design decisions
  • Proficiency with modern design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating, maintaining, and scaling a design system for enterprise software or SaaS products
  • Experience working in the IP video recording, monitoring, business intelligence, security, home automation, or IoT space
  • Proven success influencing product direction and roadmap through design leadership and customer insights
  • Strong ability to balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints in design decisions
  • Familiarity with modern software engineering tools and frameworks
  • Familiarity with AI-driven experience

Please note that sponsorship of new applicants for employment authorization, or any other immigration-related support, is not available for this position at this time.

Who You Are:

  • A Master of Scalable Impact: You excel with a 'one-to-many' mindset, finding clever ways to deliver value to a large portfolio without sacrificing quality.
  • Data-Driven and Tech-Savvy: You are comfortable using data and AI tools not just to report on the past, but to predict the future and decide where to act next.
  • A Collaborative Partner: You understand that success in a channel environment means working through partners, not around them, and you thrive on that shared ownership.
  • A HEROIC Teammate: You embody our values: showing Heroic customer service, championing Ease by making value clear and simple to achieve, taking Responsibility, seeking Opportunities for growth, demonstrating Integrity, and driving Continual improvement.
