The Product Compliance Manager is part of a global team focused on the compliance of our ever-expanding product portfolio. The position requires collaboration across all Thorlabs global entities to provide guidance and support for new and existing products as it relates to compliance regulations and standards. This is a challenging role that requires exceptional administrative and communication skills.

Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, there may be an occasional need to travel to other Thorlabs locations.

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the execution of product compliance classifications including Commodity, REACH, RoHS, TSCA, and Country of Origin within D365
  • Manage the Compliance Requests Planner, developing and implementing strategies to reduce the average response time to customer inquiries
  • Collaborate with the Supplier Quality Engineer to monitor vendor responses to compliance requests and identify opportunities to provide additional guidance or support to ensure timely and accurate submissions
  • Drive the integration of compliance requirements into the product development process, including creation and maintenance of necessary forms and documentation
  • Provide expert guidance and interpretation to ensure product compliance throughout the entire product lifecycle
  • Collaborate on the development and maintenance of an educational presentation explaining product compliance requirements for the Thorlabs community e.g., Global Compliance Page on SharePoint
  • Stay current with changes to international regulatory and agency requirements, and recommend proactive actions to maintain compliance of active products
  • Partner with the Enterprise Data Management team to develop more automated reporting tools and dashboards to display key performance indicators
  • Prepare and present executive summaries and performance dashboards during compliance report-outs
  • Manage the Product Compliance Team, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, training, performance evaluations, and professional development

In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for:

  • Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

The Company retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Physical Activities: This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand, as necessary.

Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of previous work experience in a similar compliance position.
  • 2 years of management experience is preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical engineering or related field or equivalent working experience.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Exceptional communications, collaboration, planning and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in basic computer use (MS Office) and communication tools
  • Demonstrated experience in a customer centric environment
  • Dependability and demonstrated ability to deliver results
  • Strong ability to take initiative and ownership
  • Good technical writing skills • Ability to interpret international standards
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Working knowledge of the following preferred:

o Low Voltage Directive

o Machinery Directive

o EMC Directive

o CE/UKCA

o RoHS

o REACH

o TSCA

o HTSU

Salary range for this position is $92,000 -$125,000 depending on experience

Organizational Relationships Direct Reports: This position has direct supervisory responsibilities. Responsible for the performance management and hiring of employees within that department.
