๐Ÿ† ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿ† We're proud to announce we've won Advice firm of the year at the Money Marketing Awards ๐Ÿ† ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿ†

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced QA Technical Lead to build and lead our QA practice. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, highly skilled Quality Assurance leader that will champion quality for our technology product. We're on a path to build the world's most impactful, fully-automated and holistic financial advice solution, and we need your help to deliver it to as many people as possible.

About Octopus Money

๐Ÿ™ Weโ€™re on a mission to transform millions of lives by building financial resilience and wealth for everyone  ๐Ÿ™

Money shapes every part of life. Yet most people never get the support they need:

  • Half of Brits reach retirement age without enough to live the life they want
  • Financial stress is a leading cause of poor mental health
  • Only 8% of people have access to 1-to-1 financial advice

Thereโ€™s no shortage of information. What people actually need is clarity, guidance and a plan that makes sense for them.

Thatโ€™s where we come in.

Octopus Money brings together financial planning, investment expertise and smart technology so people can understand their options and take action with confidence. We help people build a clear plan for their savings, investments and pensions and make investing simple with managed portfolios built by experts. We also support employers who want their teams to feel more secure and in control.

Some people need regulated advice. Others need coaching. Many need both at different points in life. Our service adapts to what each person needs.

We believe everyone deserves money support that works for real life.

The role and opportunity

Join our team as a Quality Assurance Tech Lead and grow our QA practice, establish our QA processes, implementing best practices, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, reliable software to our customers. This is a pivotal role requiring a strategic thinker with hands-on technical expertise, collaborative leadership skills, and the ability to communicate QA best practices in an approachable, yet impactful manner at all levels of seniority.

Day to day you will:

  • Act as a QA advocate across the technology division, promoting a quality-first mindset
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing QA team, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and ownership
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Developers, DevOps, and other stakeholders to ensure quality is embedded throughout the development and delivery process
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences regarding QA activities, findings, and risks
  • Define and establish QA processes, standards, and metrics for all stages of our lean software development lifecycle
  • Identify and introduce appropriate QA tools and technologies to optimise efficiency and effectiveness
  • Build and maintain a robust automated testing framework
  • Establish and track key quality metrics, providing regular reports and insights to stakeholders

About You

Collaborative and a great team player
Weโ€™ve built a great team of top performers, and youโ€™ll need to work with others from across the business to identify problems, agree solutions and implement changes

Problem solver at heart with an analytical mindset
You should be someone who gets excited by complex problems and can find creative ways to solve them no matter what your level of knowledge and experience with the subject matter. You should be able to digest complexity and develop a plan to move forward, without losing sight of the important details.

Goal driven and not afraid to get stuck in
We like to set ambitious goals and find creative ways to hit them, even if that means rolling up our sleeves and doing manual tasks before weโ€™ve managed to fully automate them. You should have a bias towards action and getting things done.

Knowledge and Experience required

  • Deep experience in a QA leadership role, with a track record of building and scaling QA practices within a web-based SaaS environment
  • High EQ - a team player that can build great relationships with other teams, communicate with empathy and learn from feedback

  • Deep understanding of software testing methodologies, principles, and best practices
  • Experience with security testing principles and tools
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
  • Proven experience as a people leader (of at least 2 people), preferably in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work three days a week onsite at our London office #li-hybrid

Nice to have (but not essential)

  • Previous experience with Playwright
  • Familiarity with the AWS Cloud Platform
  • Experience using languages like Go, Python, JavaScript or TypeScript
  • Delivering QA processes to ISO27001, SOC2, or similar standards
  • Knowledge of financial services
  • ISTQB or other relevant testing certifications
  • Educated to Bachelor's or Master's degree level in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
