Position Overview: Coastal Care Veterinary Emergency & Referral Hospital is looking for an experienced, collaborative and professional Registered Veterinary Technician with a passion for emergency medicine to join our ER team. This position requires a driven individual with attention to detail and who is a self- starter and able to work in a fast paced environment. The ideal candidate must be computer literate and have exceptional multi-tasking and time management skills. Critical thinking and problem- solving skills are crucial; you must be able to multitask, collaborate and communicate with co-workers efficiently, effectively and professionally.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Triage patients, assessing vitals to determine stable vs criticalInduction, maintenance, and recovery of companion animalsKnowledge of common & emergent medicationsThe ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environmentThe ability to deliver exceptional client & patient servicePlacement and maintenance of intravenous catheters, arterial catheters and central linesCalculate CRIs, fluid additives and drug dosesKnowledge of fluid pumps and fluid setup, including syringe pumps and CRI administrationAbility to perform Imaging and laboratory diagnosticsMonitor patients before, during, and after procedures under sedation and anesthesiaComplete treatment plans ordered for hospitalized patientsFilling and review prescriptionsPatient discharges and client communications
Education
Graduate from a licensed Veterinary Technician program (required)Completed the VTNEIn good standing or able to license with provincial licensing boards (NSVMA, EVTA)Able to perform physically demanding work that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds) and constant motion
