Camp Buckner is an interdenominational, recreational, faith-based retreat and conference center that serves churches, youth groups, businesses, and other ministries. You will have the opportunity to impact the lives of retreat guests and group leaders. As a Summer Staff Resident Assistant at Camp Buckner, you will be responsible for fostering a respectful community among live-in summer staff. This role serves as a mentor and role model, providing guidance, support, and accountability to ensure a positive and cohesive living environment.
What You’ll Do
As a member of our team, you will have an impact on our clients through the accomplishment of the following responsibilities:
- Conduct room checks and address any maintenance or safety concerns.
- Mediate conflicts professionally and provide support for summer staff housing or personal concerns.
- Assist with administrative tasks, including scheduling, communications, and performance tracking.
- Plan and implement recognition efforts for the operations team within a designated budget.
- Support onboarding, orientation, and integration of new summer staff.
- Maintain a visible presence in staff living areas to build trust and provide guidance.
- Lead devotionals or group discussions to encourage spiritual growth.
- Promote a positive camp culture by fostering teamwork, accountability, and initiative.
- Act as a liaison between summer staff and leadership to ensure clear communication.
- Respond to minor emergencies in housing areas per camp protocols.
- Occasionally assist with camp operations, activities, or event preparation as needed.
- Participate in training and staff meetings to align with camp goals.
- Model and uphold the mission, vision, and values of Camp Buckner in all responsibilities.
- Foster a supportive and encouraging environment for summer staff’s personal and professional growth.
- Serve as a mentor and role model, fostering a Christ-centered and respectful community.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with camp policies, including curfew, cleanliness, and conduct.
- Maintain compliance with all Buckner policies, procedures, and requirements. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for supporting and representing Buckner at special events, activities, and other assigned functions.
- Travel domestically as needed to monitor, assess, and help develop programs.
- Attend and participate in meetings and training as required; facilitate meetings and training as required.
- Work successfully as a part of a team and responsible for developing then maintaining strong working relationships with co-workers.
- Must maintain current, valid licensure throughout the duration of employment and contribute to own professional growth and development by attending accredited workshops, conferences, and other training to enhance program services, if applicable.
- Perform general office tasks as required.
- Perform special assignments, projects, and other duties as required.

- High School Diploma (or G.E.D.) required.
- Requires the ability to lead peers effectively and positively, inspiring collaboration, accountability, and a commitment to excellence in a residential setting.
- Requires sufficient organizational skills to track schedules, tasks, and staff needs effectively.
- Requires the ability to plan and execute small-scale initiatives, such as team treats or recognition efforts, within a set budget.
- Requires proficiency or willingness to learn basic administrative tasks, such as using email, spreadsheets, and internal camp systems.
- Preferred experience in residential leadership, mentorship, or community management (e.g., camp leadership, RA positions, or similar roles).
- Requires ability to handle minor conflict resolution with tact and empathy, escalating issues to leadership as necessary.
- Thrives in dynamic environments with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Requires proficient ability to speak, read and write English.
- Requires ability to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions.
- Requires ability to speak clearly and make self understood effectively in face to face interactions; articulate with accuracy when speaking on the phone.
- Requires ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing and speak in front of large groups; excellent public speaking and presentation skills required.
- Requires ability to hear and receive verbal instructions, answer phones, communicate with people in situations with some background noise.
- Requires ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with staff, vendors, campers, families, church groups, representatives, etc.
- Requires ability to work under pressure and remain flexible as priorities change.
- Requires ability to work under minimal supervision while exercising excellent professional judgment.
