The mission of Equitas Academy Charter Schools is to prepare students for college, careers, and life pursuits, and inspire them to be champions of equity.

The Community Schools Counselor will support the social-emotional well-being of our scholars. This role involves providing direct counseling services to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), conducting crisis interventions, and collaborating with school staff to implement restorative practices. The Community Schools Counselor will also lead school-wide mental health initiatives, develop tailored support plans for vulnerable student groups, and establish a peer mentoring program. 

The Counselor will report to the School Principal.

Tier 3 Counseling

  • Provides DIS counseling services for scholars on IEP counseling caseload
  • Develops and documents IEP Goals and Presents Levels of Performance in the areas of social and emotional functioning
  • Participates in IEP meetings, Annual Reviews, Triennial Reviews, and any other necessary school meetings
  • Provides 1:1 short term counseling
  • Conducts classroom observations to gather data and insight into the behaviors of scholars on the caseload
  • Maintains up to date, accurate, and confidential counseling files, including record keeping in Welligent
  • Refers students to external providers for short or long-term counseling as needed
  • Crisis Supports

  • Provides Crisis Intervention
  • Services to scholars as neededConducts risk assessments as necessary, and mobilize appropriate support
  • Develops and supports school staff, scholars, parents, and families in implementing scholar safety plans including
  • Re-Entry meetings
  • Serves as a member of the Crisis Response Team
  • School Wide

  • Supports 504 process under direction of the principal 
  • Communicate with ELOP Coordinator and After School Team about incidents in the school day to build continuity of care
  • Participate as an active member of the school’s COST team and leadership team convenings (Admin meetings, Instructional leadership team, grade level meetings) 
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested by the appropriate administrator
  • Lead school wide mental health campaigns and school-wide awareness campaigns that focus on building empathy and understanding among students.
  • Build relationships with students, support students with social goals or restorative practices and focus on student wellbeing during lunch
  • Collaborates with Community School Coordinator to align on mental health supports and promote  wraparound services for families
  • Restorative Facilitator

  • Collaborates with the school leadership teams to implement restorative practices with students
  • Supports the implementation of restorative practices for students through the lens of Multi-tiered systems of support
  • Facilitates restorative circles, conferences, and reintegration processes following behavioral incidents
  • Models and coaches the use of restorative tools
  • Co-teaches and demonstrates restorative practices with classroom teachers, providing ongoing feedback and support.
  • Facilitates goal-setting sessions to encourage self-efficacy among students
  • Subgroup Focus

  • Creates tiered plans to support social-emotional health of subgroups of students to include: Unhoused scholars, Students with Disabilities, Newcomer Emergent Bilingual scholars, foster youth, new to Equitas students, and students at risk of Gang affiliation
  • Communicate needs of subgroups to staff members to support students’ development and to provide integrated supports
  • Foster inclusivity by leading safe spaces for students to share feelings through group sessions
  • Lead after school sessions with groups of students as needed
  • Peer Mentoring

  • Develop a peer mentoring program to connect students who need social-emotional support with peers
  • Select and train students on effective mentorship 
  • Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in counseling required
  • Pupil Personnel Services credential required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Bilingual Spanish strongly preferred
  • Compensation and Benefits
    Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. The Counselor Salary Scale starts at $75,000.
