LOCATION: Apply Digital is hybrid/remote friendly. The preferred candidate should be based in either the Greater Toronto Area or the Greater Vancouver Area of Canada, working in hours that align to ET (Eastern Timezone) or PT (Pacific Timezone).

THE ROLE:

Are you passionate about transforming raw data into clean, trusted, and insightful datasets that empower business teams to make smarter decisions? Do you thrive in fast-paced environments where collaboration, data storytelling, and scalable analytics workflows are essential? Are you excited to work cross-functionally with marketers, product teams, and UX designers to deliver end-to-end analytics solutions—from event tracking implementation to self-serve dashboards? If so, you may be ready to take on the Senior Analytics Engineer role within our team.

As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, modeling, and transforming data to support actionable insights across our Composable digital platforms. You’ll build and maintain scalable dbt models, optimize semantic layers, and ensure business users can explore data confidently through self-serve dashboards and curated datasets. In addition to data modeling, you’ll implement robust web and app analytics tracking using JavaScript and tools like Google Tag Manager, GA4, Segment, and Adobe Analytics.

Your work will ensure accurate and consistent event data collection to power downstream reporting, personalization, and marketing attribution. This role requires strong expertise in analytics engineering practices, SQL (BigQuery preferred), dbt, JavaScript for analytics implementation, and BI tools such as Looker or Power BI.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable analytics data models and transformation workflows using dbt, SQL, and cloud-based data warehouses (e.g. BigQuery, Snowflake).
  • Implement and manage analytics tracking and event instrumentation using JavaScript and platforms like Google Tag Manager, GA4, Adobe Analytics, and CDPs (e.g., Segment).
  • Create clean, well-documented semantic layers that power self-serve BI tools such as Looker, Power BI, or Tableau.
  • Collaborate with marketing, product, UX, and strategy teams to define KPIs, business logic, and measurement frameworks aligned to business goals.
  • Optimize data transformation pipelines for performance, accuracy, and maintainability, applying best practices in modular SQL development and testing.
  • Ensure data quality and trust by implementing robust validation, testing, and documentation practices, including data dictionaries and lineage tracking.
  • Proactively monitor and troubleshoot analytics workflows, tracking issues, and dashboard performance to ensure reliable insights delivery.
  • Contribute to data governance and privacy initiatives, ensuring analytics solutions comply with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and internal standards.
  • Stay current on modern analytics tooling, frameworks, and methodologies — continuously improving workflows, documentation, and data accessibility.

  • WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Experience collaborating with remote teams across North America and Latin America, working effectively across time zones.
  • 5+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data modeling, or BI development, with a focus on enabling data-driven decision-making.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL for data modeling, transformations, and analytics use cases.
  • Hands-on experience with dbt for transformation workflows, version control, and modular analytics engineering.
  • Deep understanding of analytics tracking implementation using JavaScript, Google Tag Manager, and tools like GA4, Adobe Analytics, or Segment.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms, particularly Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Storage).
  • Familiarity with BI tools such as Looker, Power BI, or Tableau, and experience designing scalable dashboards and semantic layers.
  • Strong grasp of data quality, testing frameworks, and validation best practices for reliable reporting.
  • Awareness of data privacy and consent regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and how they apply to analytics tracking and reporting.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex data discrepancies across tools and reports.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate business needs into data solutions and explain technical details to non-technical stakeholders.

  • NICE TO HAVES:

  • Experience with real-time data streaming solutions (e.g., Kafka, Pub/Sub, or Kinesis).
  • Familiarity with machine learning workflows and MLOps best practices.
  • Knowledge of Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) in data environments.
  • Familiarity with data integrations involving Contentful, Algolia, Segment, and Talon.One.
