As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will help Clever improve reporting and strategic decision-making by guiding our metrics and BI development. You’ll work with teams across Clever to build out a consistent and rigorous analytics infrastructure, and will empower your colleagues to ask and answer their own questions about our data and our business. You’ll partner closely with operations managers and systems admins to ensure that our systems are collecting clean data for Analytics use-cases.

In the course of one day you may be debating how we should define a new metric, gathering operational/analytical requirements, or leading a collaborative data-modeling white boarding session. In this role you will have incredible visibility across Clever’s business strategy, and play a key role in helping us understand it.

A DAY IN THE LIFE:

  • Partner autonomously with business operations managers to devise new metrics for company goals and executive reporting
  • Partner with analysts and systems admins to design and implement data models that integrate metrics with our systems (Salesforce, NetSuite), enabling ops and automations
  • Collaborate with Business Operations, Systems Admins, and Product/Engineering teams to design and implement new data collection methods needed to support down-stream use-cases
  • Meet with internal stakeholders including sales and customer success teams to understand how they use data in their workflows, and model data accordingly
  • Partner with Clever’s data engineers to understand legacy metrics and contradictory data from conflicting sources, then propose a new technical architecture to remove tech debt and create a single source of truth
  • Teach others best practices around analytics and foster a data-driven culture at Clever
  • Help cover inbound analytics service desk requests, usually involving BI troubleshooting, and occasionally involving upstream DBT development

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience as an analyst, data scientist, or data/analytics engineer
    • 3+ years with DBT
  • Advanced SQL: The ability to write technically complex and readable SQL, employing: CTEs, window functions, date spines, etc. The expertise to know which design patterns are appropriate based on business requirements
  • Data modeling: Familiarity with more than one data modeling paradigm, (e.g. Kimball, OBT, Cubes) and opinions about when to apply each
  • Aversion to tech debt: the ability to build scalable and easy-to-maintain data lineages that expand analytical and operational capabilities
  • Analytics engineering expertise: Comfort conducting stakeholder interviews, diagramming entity relationships, building DBT models, and writing tests
  • Analytical thinking: You have the ability to apply sound judgment in defining entities, metrics, and attributes that measure business activities, aligning them with actionable insights and controllable inputs
  • Ownership: You have subject matter expertise required to own an analytics engineering domain with minimal manager assistance
  • Mentorship experience: you’ve empowered data analysts and cross-functional partners by sharing your expertise and have guided them to effectively utilize your BI tool for reporting and exploration
  • A strong belief in Clever's mission: making it easy to bring great software to the classroom
  • A desire to work in a diverse, highly collaborative team environment
  • Commitment to inclusion and belonging: Clever believes that the classrooms we serve and our company’s halls should be spaces that are diverse and inclusive. We seek opportunities and celebrate actions that further allow us to build diverse teams, include every voice, and create a safe space for everyone to bring their authentic selves into the workplace
