Role Purpose

Matillion is built around small development teams with responsibility for specific themes and initiatives. We are now looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to work in our Developer Experience team. This role is based in Hyderabad in India.

How do you build and manage the culture, tools and processes that empower developers to be more efficient? The Developer Experience team is part of Matillion’s Internal Engineering Platform organisation and takes on this very challenge. As a member of the team, you work with Software Engineers to ensure that their experience in software development is both seamless and satisfying. This requires providing and maintaining efficient tools, frameworks, and infrastructure that facilitate fail-fast development. Using your leadership and technical expertise, you will design and implement complex processes and tooling. You will drive the use of Generative AI for Developer Productivity. You will also serve as a subject matter expert in areas such as source control, build, branching, continuous integration & deployment, and general development best practices.

Our Developer Experience team advocates for developer needs by ensuring that those are taken into consideration in decision-making processes. You will provide timely support to and gather feedback from developers to foster a collaborative and supportive developer community. We look across Matillion to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems.

What you will be doing

  • Developer Experience
  • Developer Empathy - Gather holistic feedback from Developers and design solutions to improve their lived experience.
  • Generative AI - Innovate ways to use Generative AI for Developer assistance and guide the internal Developer community on AI toolsGovernance and enforcement of policies and procedures around source control, changes, releases, etc.
  • Design and implement powerful, well-maintained, and user-friendly development tools, IDEs, and infrastructure that drive high velocity in code development, testing and version control.
  • Streamline workflows - Simplify and optimise development workflows to incorporate automation and eliminate unnecessary processesPerform administration and troubleshooting, and provide support to all engineers.
  • Enhance collaboration - Work closely among the different Engineering teams to work as one cohesive unitMeasurement-driven efficiency -  Familiarity with Engineering metrics such as DORA and how to use them to proactively drive efficiency

  • Work with the Team Lead and Manager to identify training goals
  • Partake in technical discussions within the team
  • Actively identify and complete opportunities for self-training and external training
  • Drive the team’s process of continual improvement

    • What we are looking for

  • Essential Skills
  • 5+ years of experience with DevOps and/or SRE
  • Experience with code signing and build management tools (Gradle, Maven, ant etc).
  • Familiarity with software configuration management systems and source code version control systems (specifically, GitHub)
  • Some experience with Developer Portals (specifically Backstage)
  • Metrics driven: you are proficient in measuring success, value and gaps.
  • A strong background in software engineering and release engineering, with coding experience in one or more of the following languages/libraries/platforms: Java, JavaScript/Typescript, NodeJS, Python, Go, AWS, Docker, Serverless, React, Terraform
