The role
As a Senior engineering manager – Tax Wrappers, you’ll play a pivotal role in Seccl’s next phase of growth. You’ll lead engineering delivery across the Tax Wrappers domain, which includes core products such as SIPPs and ISAs — some of the most critical and strategically important capabilities on the Seccl platform.
This is a senior leadership role with both delivery and growth accountability. You’ll initially take ownership of a single squad, while being expected to hire, build and scale a second squad within your first few months. Over time, you’ll lead two squads operating in closely related or adjacent problem spaces, each typically made up of 4–5 engineers and supported by a Product Manager.
You’ll work closely with Product, Platform engineering, Compliance, and senior engineering leadership to ensure Seccl continues to deliver scalable, compliant, and market-leading tax wrapper functionality. Your leadership will directly influence Seccl’s ability to support new customer propositions, scale with confidence, and deliver increasingly complex functionality as the platform grows.
This role goes beyond day-to-day squad leadership: you’ll help shape the technical direction, operating model, and long-term strategy for Tax Wrappers across the platform.
The Tax Wrappers domain at Seccl:
Tax Wrappers is a critical growth area for Seccl. Our SIPP and ISA capabilities sit at the heart of the platform and are fundamental to how customers use and integrate with Seccl.
As the platform grows, the complexity and scale of this domain continues to increase — from account lifecycle management and transaction flows to regulatory reporting, integrations, and operational resilience. We’re investing in multiple squads in this space to ensure we can deliver at pace while maintaining high standards of quality, security, and compliance.
As Senior engineering anager, you’ll be a key leader responsible for ensuring this domain can scale sustainably and continue to support Seccl’s growth ambitions over the next 12 months and beyond.
On a typical day you will be:
Leading, coaching and mentoring engineers across two squads, fostering a culture of high performance, psychological safety, and continuous improvement
Hiring and building a new squad in the Tax Wrappers domain, including shaping team structure, onboarding, and ways of working
Partnering closely with Product managers to define priorities, plan delivery, and align initiatives with Seccl’s commercial, regulatory, and platform goals
Providing technical leadership and architectural oversight across Tax Wrapper systems, including account lifecycles, transaction processing, and regulatory logic
Supporting and challenging technical decision-making, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, compliant, and well-integrated across the wider platform
Remaining hands-on where it adds value — through design reviews, architectural spikes, prototyping, or unblocking complex delivery challenges
Working closely with Platform engineering and other domain leaders to ensure strong cross-squad collaboration and consistency
Owning delivery health across your domain, including production readiness, incident response, and operational excellence
Using metrics and feedback to continuously improve delivery predictability, system reliability, and team effectiveness
Contributing to broader engineering leadership discussions, helping shape how engineering operates at Seccl as we scale
This role’s for you if:
You’re an experienced Engineering manager who has led complex product domains and is ready for broader scope and impact
You have a strong track record of building and scaling teams, including hiring, onboarding, and developing engineers
You’re comfortable leading multiple squads or operating at a domain level, balancing strategic thinking with day-to-day execution
You bring excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, and can work effectively with Product, Compliance, and senior leadership
You’re confident working across our tech stack: Node.js, React, MongoDB, AWS, Lambda, Serverless Framework, and JavaScript/TypeScript
You enjoy being close to the technology and can provide meaningful technical guidance without needing to be the primary coder
You have domain experience in financial services, investment platforms, fintech, or other highly regulated environments — experience with tax wrappers (such as SIPPs or ISAs) is a strong advantage, but experience in adjacent domains (payments, custody, pensions, banking, compliance-heavy platforms) would also be highly valuable
You care deeply about building secure, compliant, and scalable systems that are easy to integrate and a pleasure to use
You’re excited by the opportunity to shape a critical domain in a fast-growing, mission-led company.
This role isn’t for you if:
You rely on a lot of top-down direction. Here, you’ll have a lot of freedom and ownership of your role, and you’ll be expected to shape your own progression
You’re not comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Our speed and scalability are what set us apart; you need to be able to act quickly and think on your feet
You struggle to follow through on ideas. We value people who do what they say they will. If you care about something, you have the freedom here to make it happen
You don’t like change. You’ll get on great here if you relish the ambiguity of rapid growth and are willing to embrace uncertainty
What’s in it for you:
We offer a generous mix of benefits for the things that really matter to our people, including:
