You are a senior software engineer who specializes in geometry processing algorithm development and tool creation. You bridge the gap between complex 3D representations and production-ready assets, thriving in a fast-paced environment where you take pride in building geometric algorithms that generate high-quality 3D meshes for games, vfx, XR, and 3D printing.
You are a systems thinker who excel at building scalable and robust systems that replaces fragile, manual mesh cleanup processes with automation, ensuring that every output—from UV mapping to normal—is reliable, production-quality, and engine-ready.
Most importantly, you care about real-world creator impact: you are deeply enthusiastic about building the geometric foundations that allow generative AI to comprehend and empower human 3D creativity.
You will be at the forefront of the GenAI revolution. As a core member of the Applied Research team, your mission is to bridge the gap between cutting-edge generative research and production-ready 3D content. You will focus on building geometric foundations and automated workflows that allow our generative models to produce high-quality, production-ready assets. By developing robust mesh processing algorithms and unified toolsets, you will transform raw model outputs into optimized, high-fidelity 3D data that empowers our artists and developers.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Algorithm Development: Research, design, and implement state-of-the-art geometry processing algorithms, including mesh simplification, remeshing, feature preservation, and volumetric representations.
Mesh & UV Optimization: Develop automated solutions for mesh quality enhancement and high-quality UV generation to ensure assets meet rigorous production standards.
Workflow Automation: Build the "connective tissue" between generative models and art-facing tools, automating the transformation of raw geometry into rigged, skinned, and textured assets.
System Architecture: Centralize geometry processing infrastructure, maintaining a "source of truth" repository for all geometric tools, documentation, and configurations.
Performance Engineering: Optimize algorithms for performance, robustness, and scalability, eliminating technical bottlenecks and manual "hacks" in the asset evaluation pipeline.
Educational Background: Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
Expertise in Geometry Processing: Proven track record of implementing and optimizing core mesh algorithms, including mesh simplification (quadric-based), high-fidelity remeshing, and robust UV unwrapping/parameterization.
Software Engineering Rigor: Strong proficiency in C++ and Python, with a focus on writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code that is reliable and reproducible.
Problem Solving: Proven ability to translate complex research papers into practical, scalable applications for real-world use cases.
System Experience: Senior engineering expertise in building automation or workflow systems.
Communication: Strong technical communication skills to collaborate effectively with researchers, artists, and product managers.
High-Performance Computing: Experience with GPU programming (CUDA, DirectX, Vulkan) and geometry-focused libraries like Eigen, CGAL, or Libigl.
GenAI Literacy: A passion for Generative AI and an understanding of how geometry processing interacts with 3D generative models.
Industry Experience: Prior experience in 3D pipeline development within major game developers, film studios, or GenAI products.
DCC Integration: Hands-on experience with the APIs of tools like Blender, Maya, or game engines (Unreal/Unity).
Trusted by Meta, Square Enix, Deepmind and more, Meshy is redefining 3D creation with generative AI. We empower artists, designers, engineers, hobbyists, and makers to bring immersive worlds, characters, and experiences to reality in minutes instead of months.
In addition to our core mission of unleashing creativity, we build a culture that we enjoy and are proud of. Here are some highlights:
We value intelligence and the pursuit of knowledge. We are a global team of generative-AI pioneers, computer-graphics veterans, and product builders who believe human expression and enjoyment is the ultimate frontier of computing.
We care deeply about our work, our users, and each other. Empathy and passion drive us forward. We have a culture of directness and truthfulness, therefore we value constructive criticism. Being direct and truthful is the most sincere form of trust and care.
We trust our instincts and are not afraid to take bold risks. Meshy was born from a few-hour prototype, a bold pivot for a team that had very little experience in AI. Innovation requires courage.
We have a keen eye for quality and aesthetics. Our products are not just functional but also beautiful. The same aesthetics permeate through our culture, our code and are the same: functional and beautiful.
Persons in these roles preferably should be able to spend part of their time on-site in our Shanghai, Shenzhen, or Beijing office. On-site requirements vary based on position and team, and we support fully remote options for exceptional candidates. If you have questions about hybrid or remote work arrangements for this role, please ask your recruiter.
We are a fast paced startup and we work hard. You need to be able to:
Very clearly communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
Dive deep and observe details at close range.
Work under ambiguous problems and ambitious deadlines.
You will first be contacted by our recruiter.
We will then schedule a 1-hour technical interview about your past projects and open-ended live coding in Python or C++ with our Hiring Manager for this role.
Then, you will be invited for a virtual on-site interview containing 2 or 3 1-hour blocks with your future collaborators from multiple roles, where we'd like you to present how you may speak in their languages and solve their problems using your unique skills as a bridge role between research, product, and art.
Finally, you will talk to one of our senior leaders about our culture, your background, and whether we have matching vibes.
