At Lumilens we are building the critical photonics infrastructure that powers tomorrow’s AI supercomputing. From chip-to-chip optical interconnects to scalable photonic engines, Lumilens is unlocking a new era of computing - faster, cooler, and massively more efficient.
We’re a well-funded startup backed by Mayfield and led by veterans who’ve built and scaled some of the most transformative technologies in the industry. At Lumilens, we’re developing high-speed photonics products purpose-built to power the future of AI infrastructure and high-performance computing.
This isn’t incremental innovation, it’s a ground-floor opportunity to rethink the optical layer from the silicon up. You’ll work alongside a team of world class engineers solving some of the hardest challenges in scaling optical systems. Every line of code, every design decision, every breakthrough you help deliver will shape the infrastructure of tomorrow.
If you're looking for mission, momentum, and the chance to make an outsized impact, jump on the rocket ship. We’re just getting started.
About the Role – Senior Hardware Engineer
We are seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to design, validate, and deploy next‑generation optical interconnect hardware systems for high‑performance computing and data center applications. This role is highly hands on, requiring strong technical expertise in board‑level design, debugging, and system integration. The ideal candidate is also comfortable with frequent, short‑notice travel to support vendors, manufacturing partners, and customer sites worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Design & Development
Own schematic design, PCB layout reviews, and component selection for complex boards.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (mechanical, firmware, SI/PI, manufacturing) to ensure robust system integration.
Drive hardware from concept through prototype, validation, and production release.
Validation & Debugging
Perform board bring‑up, signal integrity validation, and power delivery testing.
Use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, BERTs, etc.) to debug and resolve issues.
Support field escalations and customer deployments with rapid root‑cause analysis.
Vendor & Customer Engagement
Travel frequently on short notice to vendor sites, CM partners, and customer labs.
Participate in design reviews, audits, and troubleshooting sessions with suppliers.
Provide technical expertise in customer discussions and escalations.
Process & Quality
Ensure designs meet DFM/DFT, compliance, and reliability standards.
Contribute to continuous improvement of hardware development workflows.
Document design decisions, validation results, and lessons learned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
15+ years of experience in hardware design and validation.
Strong expertise in high‑speed digital design, power delivery, and system integration.
Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB design tools.
Hands‑on debugging skills with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related lab tools.
Willingness to travel frequently on short notice (international).
Preferred Skills
Experience with data center hardware, networking equipment, or photonic/electrical interconnects.
Familiarity with compliance standards (FCC, CE, UL, RoHS, etc.).
Exposure to NPI processes and scaling designs into high‑volume manufacturing.
Strong communication skills for cross‑functional and customer interactions.
