The Mission of the Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Own, build, and evolve our core infrastructure to enable scalable global satellite operations.

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer in the IT department , you provide the critical foundation that allows ICEYE to operate. You will own and modernize our corporate infrastructure,  managing the physical and virtual backbone that our engineering and business teams rely on daily. Your focus is on tangible operational excellence: building resilient on-premise clusters, optimizing hybrid networks, and transitioning our systems administration into a disciplined, code-driven practice.

This includes sovereign and turnkey ISR missions leveraging ICEYE’s world-leading synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology, as well as access to data from the world’s largest SAR satellite constellation. These capabilities enable partners to detect and respond to critical changes anywhere on Earth with unprecedented speed and accuracy – day or night and in any weather, supported by ultra high-resolution imagery and high-frequency revisits.

Requirements

Core Technical Profile: The T-Shaped Engineer

We do not expect universal expertise; however, this role requires a specific balance of breadth and depth. We are seeking a T-shaped engineer: an individual possessing a functional understanding of the entire infrastructure stack, alongside expert-level mastery in at least two of the following areas:

• Virtualization & Compute: Designing and managing high-availability server clusters and virtualization stacks in production.
• Context: Experience with VMware or Proxmox is essential. Familiarity with shared storage backends (SAN, iSCSI, Ceph) and disaster recovery planning is expected. 
• Hybrid Cloud (AWS): Building scalable environments on AWS that integrate effectively with on-premise systems.
• Context: Beyond basic EC2, you should understand VPC architecture (Transit Gateways, Peering), IAM security boundaries, and hybrid connectivity (VPN/Direct Connect).
• Advanced Networking: Designing and troubleshooting complex network topologies utilizing enterprise-grade vendors.
• Context: We use Palo Alto and Cisco. You need to be comfortable configuring L2/L3 switching, debugging routing issues, and managing firewall rulesets and VPN configurations. 
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Defining infrastructure via software rather than relying on manual configuration.
• Context: We value reproducible builds. Experience with Terraform (state management, modules) and Ansible (playbook optimization) is highly valued. A "GitOps" mindset regarding infra changes is a plus.
• OS Administration: Deep internal knowledge of Windows Server or Linux environments.
• Context: This means going beyond the GUI. We need capabilities in performance tuning, kernel diagnostics, Active Directory integration, and automated patching strategies.

Scope & Constraints

• Hybrid Requirement: As this role involves direct management of physical infrastructure, a hybrid presence is required. Experience limited solely to cloud environments will be insufficient.
• Multi-Vendor Environment: We operate a mix of open-source and enterprise tools (Okta, Google Workspace, VMware, Proxmox, AWS, Palo Alto, Cisco). If your background is exclusively Microsoft-centric (e.g., Hyper-V, Azure only), this role will likely be a mismatch for your skillset.

Expected Outcomes

• Infrastructure Ownership: You will assume responsibility for core segments, including on-prem clusters and network segments, identifying technical debt and executing a plan to address it.
• Build & Stabilize: You will architect and deploy new on-premise clusters while simultaneously stabilizing legacy systems.
• Cloud Expansion: You will lead the initiative to build new infrastructure on public cloud services, ensuring seamless integration with our existing on-premise footprint.
• Modernization: You will drive the transition from manual administrative tasks to automated, reproducible workflows using Terraform and Ansible.
• Observability: You will ensure that all systems are effectively monitored, logged, and documented. We operate on the principle that if a system is not monitored, it effectively does not exist.
