Senior Legal Counsel

Apt Resources is looking for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel with a focus on the Energy Sector to join our dynamic legal team in Qatar. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and experience in energy law, including regulatory frameworks, transactional support, and compliance obligations within this sector. This role requires a strategic thinker who can provide effective legal solutions while supporting our client’s business objectives in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal guidance related to energy regulations, environmental laws, and compliance obligations in the energy sector.
• Negotiate and draft a variety of complex agreements, including joint ventures, supply contracts, and project financing documents.
• Assess legal risks associated with projects and provide recommendations to mitigate those risks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that all legal aspects of the organization’s energy projects are properly handled.
• Monitor and interpret changes in laws and regulations affecting the energy industry, and advise the organization accordingly.
• Represent the organization in disputes related to energy projects, engaging with external counsel as necessary.
• Support compliance training initiatives to raise awareness of legal and regulatory issues among staff.
• Provide strategic input into corporate transactions impacting the energy portfolio.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business or similar discipline from a reputable university with a preference for the candidates holding an MBA
• 12 years of experience in similar roles in large companies, of which at least 5 years are in positions of progressively increasing managerial responsibilities, demonstrating a strong need for effective leadership skills.
• Strong expertise in energy regulations, contract law, and compliance issues relevant to the energy industry.
• Proven ability to negotiate and draft complex legal documents.
• Exceptional analytical and strategic thinking skills.
• Proficient in English (required); proficiency in Arabic is an added advantage.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
• Demonstrated commitment to professional development and staying current with industry trends.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Understanding of the regulatory landscape in the GCC region, specifically related to energy.
