The Sr. Manager will lead and manage multiple Technical Operations (TechOps) teams or a broad TechOps domain with the goal of providing the LogicMonitor service in a reliable, scalable, and sustainable way for our customers. The Sr. Manager, reporting to the Head of Technical Operations (or equivalent Director/VP), is responsible for the management and development of TechOps managers and senior team members. The Sr. Manager will lead by example with proactive communication, strategic thinking, attention to detail, and excellent follow through. The Sr. Manager will own the organization’s recruiting and org design within their scope, collaborate with the Engineering team and other TechOps counterparts, define and report Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and key KPIs, and be responsible for building a culture that embodies dedication to highly reliable infrastructure, personal performance excellence, team participation, team retention, and accountability.
As a crucial senior leader in the TechOps organization at LogicMonitor, you are called upon to lead and scale Technical Operations with the goal of providing the LogicMonitor SaaS platform in a reliable and sustainable way for our customers. You will report to the Head of Technical Operations, and lead by example with proactive communication, attention to detail, and excellent follow through. Make your mark by owning the org’s recruiting strategy and headcount plan for your area, collaborating with the Engineering team and other TechOps leaders, defining and reporting SLIs and operational KPIs, and shepherding a culture that embodies a dedication to building reliable infrastructure, personal performance excellence, team participation, team retention, and accountability.
Here's a closer look at this key role:
- Manage and optimize On-Call rotation and practices across multiple teams with the goal of reducing both Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR) and employee burnout
- Provide day-to-day management and oversight of TechOps managers and senior personnel
- Provide guidance and direction, plan quarterly performance objectives, ensure adequate staffing, and manage personnel issues and performance, etc.
- Provide regular reporting of Service Disruptions, SLIs/SLOs, and follow-through on work to prevent repeat recurrence at a systemic level
- Ensure all team members in your scope have a published job description including scorecard items
- Participate as a senior member of the engineering / TechOps management team
- Interface with the Information Security team as necessary to validate project security requirements
- Manage multiple large and technically complex projects across teams and functions
- Ownership of the new-hire process and recruiting strategy for your organization
- In conjunction with the Head of Technical Operations (and/or Director/VP), maintain the balance between planned and unplanned activities, help with task prioritization and assignment across teams
- In a boots on the ground role when needed, make decisions, build consensus, escalate, and communicate as appropriate to facilitate the success of projects, and the success and cohesiveness of the organization and company
- Provide direct technical and operational guidance to managers and senior team members to help teams achieve goals and improve productivity
- Own and drive Cost Management (AWS and other 3rd party vendors) for your area, including optimization initiatives.
- 3–7 years in a manager or senior manager role, leading multiple teams and/or managers
- 7–10+ years working in senior operations positions
- A track record of providing leadership and inspiration to team members and managers, maintaining a positive trajectory, and driving to constantly improve results
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills with a track record of improving documentation and processes
- A track record of solving complex, cross-team problems
- Ability to handle complexity and ambiguity with ease
- Ability to grasp the big picture and distill it down to actionable tasks and programs
- Expert understanding of linux system administration and 10+ years of hands-on experience or equivalent oversight
- Strong understanding of networking technologies
- Strong understanding of Amazon Web Services
- Well versed in security principles, both system and network
- Experience with open source big data technologies such as Kafka, AMQP, Elastic etc.
- Experience in managing enterprise products delivered via SaaS
- A track record of being security conscious in all decision making, and regularly improving the security posture of the company and product
- Experience using AI tools to enhance productivity, innovation, or problem-solving.
