About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Product Design Manager to lead and grow a high-performing team shaping delightful, effective experiences used by millions of learners. You’ll manage designers, set quality and craft standards, partner closely with product and engineering, and drive strategy and execution for a critical product area. This role reports into the Head of Design for Growth and sits within Duolingo’s Design team.

- Grow and lead a talented, diverse, inclusive team of product designers and design leaders who consistently deliver high-quality work and learner-focused outcomes.
- Develop your team’s skills and careers, giving clear, actionable feedback and coaching toward greater scope and impact.
- Partner deeply with Product and Engineering leaders to set strategy, plan effectively, and hit product and business metrics.
- Uphold and elevate a high bar for design craft and usability across end-to-end experiences, from visual design to interaction details and animation.
- Use data and experimentation to inform decisions, measure outcomes, and iterate for impact.
- Work directly with executives and our CEO in building excellent products.
- Champion a creative, learner-first culture that balances bold bets with rigorous, data-driven improvements.

- 8+ years in product design with proven people management experience at a comparable tech company.
- A track record of building, scaling, and developing high-performing design teams and recruiting diverse talent.
- Experience partnering with PM and Engineering to define strategy, plan roadmaps, and deliver measurable results.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate product rationale and design feedback clearly to executives and cross-functional partners.
- A strong grasp of data-informed design; comfortable setting success metrics and reviewing experiments.
- Fluency in modern design tools and practices; able to give incisive, craft-level feedback even when not the hands-on designer.
- The ability to work from or relocate to Pittsburgh, PA, or New York City, NY.
