The key function of the Senior Software Engineer is to build and maintain complex systems and tools. This position works collaboratively with other engineers and teams to maintain high performance and optimize workflows to support our game teams.
This role is a full-time, on-site position based 5 days a week at our Downtown Vancouver studio.
In this role, you can expect to:
Key Accountabilities:Lead software design, development, and maintenance, ensuring code quality and adherence to best practices.Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and code reviews to team members.Architect solutions for complex technical challenges and make informed technology decisions.Collaborate with cross-functional teams and departments, facilitating effective communication.Ensure system performance, scalability, and security, implementing advanced practices.Resolve critical software issues and drive documentation for knowledge sharing.Stay updated with industry trends, contribute to project planning, and manage timelines.Act as a technology subject matter expert and drive process improvement and innovation.Provide mentorship and knowledge sharing as needed, contributing to team growth.
Backend:Leading the design and architecture of backend systems, with a focus on scalability, performance, and security.Implementing complex server-side logic, including APIs, databases, authentication systems, and data processing pipelines.Taking a leadership role in the development of RESTful APIs, UI interfaces, and data visualization tools.Collaborating with game designers to deeply understand LiveOps tools and game feature requirements.Providing expert technical insights and feasibility assessments in design discussions.Leading the implementation of LiveOps tools and features, including in-game events, content updates, player rewards, and analytics systems.Leading the integration of backend systems with the game client to support functionality.
To be successful in this role, your background includes:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.5+ years in software engineering with back-end/server-side technologies.Advanced technical experience in Node.js or TypeScript.Strong database experience (any RDBMS, preferably MongoDB).Have worked on a RESTful API system.Experience in working in a mixed team environment of engineers and non-engineering professionals.Good experience working with source control.Able to effectively communicate and translate between general ideas and technical practices.Experience dealing with scalability and performance optimization.Experience in Unity3D, PostgreSQL, and Redis.Practical knowledge of the iOS and Android platforms.Experience in professional game production.Experience working with Google Cloud, AWS or Azure.
