At Compass, our mission is to help everyone find their place in the world. Founded in 2012, we’re revolutionizing the real estate industry with our end-to-end platform that empowers residential real estate agents to deliver exceptional service to seller and buyer clients.

About the Role:

Do you thrive on solving large-scale data challenges? The Compass Search & Listings team is on the brink of doubling our data volume, processing and normalizing real estate listings from over 200 sources to power the entire Compass platform. We are seeking an innovative engineer to lead the charge in efficiently scaling our pipeline microservices to manage this substantial growth. If you are passionate about developing robust, high-volume data systems, this is your chance to make a significant impact.

We are seeking a Senior Engineer to be a multiplier for our team—a leader who blends deep technical expertise with a passion for mentorship. You will be the driving force behind our most complex projects, leveraging your experience with microservice architecture to design systems that are not only scalable and resilient but also set the standard for quality. Beyond writing code, you will guide your team, foster a collaborative environment, and shape the technical direction of Compass Engineering. If you are a pragmatic technologist who thrives on solving tough problems and elevating the engineers around you, we want you to lead with us.

At Compass, You Will:

  • Work closely with Product and adjacent Engineering teams to deliver business critical features to our customers.
  • Join a great team with high visibility and challenging projects on the horizon to help grow your career.
  • Lead the technical strategy for building and scaling our distributed platform, focusing on creating performant and resource-efficient services.
  • Drive continuous improvement and optimization of processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall performance.
  • Build, develop, and scale platform pipelines that deliver property listings for real estate professionals, buyers, and sellers across the country.
  • Operate in a scalable engineering culture that leverages modern principles of decoupled systems and automated CI/CD/testing/monitoring to drive efficiencies.
  • Be self-reflective, solutions-driven, growth-minded, and take part in an inclusive environment where we collaborate without ego.
  • Inspire, recruit, and mentor fellow engineers.

What We Look For:

  • BS or MS in CS or EE, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of experience developing comprehensive, high-performance software applications in Java, Go or Python.
  • 3+ years experience with cloud technologies, preferably AWS services, including EKS, S3, Redis, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, Lambda, and MSK.
  • A track record as a technical leader with cross-team impact.
  • Expertise designing and extending Kafka and event-driven data ingestion and normalization services that perform at scale.
  • Understanding and adherence to industry-standard best practices in software development and architecture.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, great communication skills, passion for delivering operational excellence and a sense of humor.
