Senior Software Engineer - Mobile

The Role:

The Mobile Team’s mission is to capture and process high-value audio data that powers Read AI’s downstream applications - delivering smarter, real-time insights across a wide range of use cases. Our iOS and Android apps let users instantly capture audio and receive AI-generated transcripts and summaries in real time, helping them stay present and engaged during conversations. As we expand when and where users interact with Read AI, we’re building a seamless cross-device experience so users can record, watch, and access Read AI anywhere.

We’re looking for a Senior Mobile Engineer to take significant ownership of our mobile apps and help shape the future of Read AI. This role is pivotal in scaling high-performance, AI-powered experiences to a broader audience. You’ll partner deeply with product, design, and ML to ship new capabilities, and you’ll help raise the bar through mentorship, technical leadership, and strong engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities:

• Own major feature areas end-to-end across iOS (Swift, SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose) - from technical design through implementation, testing, rollout, and iteration.

• Help lead the development of new mobile features and product improvements, driving execution and aligning partners on scope, tradeoffs, and timelines.

• Build and enhance real-time audio capture and processing across platforms, leveraging AVFoundation (iOS) and Android audio frameworks to ensure high-quality recordings and accurate transcription.

• Optimize app performance, reliability, battery usage, and latency to deliver smooth, real-time AI-powered transcription and summarization.

• Design and implement AI-powered mobile interactions, including chat-based experiences that let users explore, query, and take action on meeting reports and insights.

• Partner closely with product, design, and ML teams to prototype and ship novel mobile UX patterns for conversational AI, making complex information feel intuitive, fast, and useful.

• Evolve mobile architecture patterns, state management, and shared engineering standards to support rapid iteration and maintainability at scale.

• Establish and uphold best practices for code quality, testing, release hygiene, observability, and performance profiling across both platforms.

• Implement strong security, privacy, data handling, and offline-first support to ensure user trust and reliable cross-device experiences.

• Mentor and support other engineers through design reviews, pairing, and code review, helping grow technical skills and product instincts across the team.

• Contribute to hiring by defining role expectations, participating in interviews, and helping raise the overall bar for the mobile team.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of development experience.

• Strong experience building and shipping production mobile apps on iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) and/or Android (Kotlin/Jetpack Compose).

• Proven ability to own complex features end-to-end, including technical design, execution, rollout, and iteration.

• Solid understanding of mobile architecture patterns, state management, and building maintainable UI at scale.

• Experience with real-time audio capture and processing, using AVFoundation (iOS) and/or Android audio APIs.

• Familiarity with background execution, offline storage, and syncing data reliably across devices and network conditions.

• Experience integrating mobile apps with RESTful APIs, WebSockets, and event-driven backends.

• Strong product instincts - you care deeply about customer workflows and build experiences that are fast, intuitive, and reliable.

• Strong communication skills - the ability to collaborate across product, design, and other engineering teams and drive alignment on tradeoffs.

Nice to have:

• Prior experience with real-time audio processing or speech-to-text applications is a bonus.

• Backend development experience in Python, FastAPI, or Node.js

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Redis, and Celery for handling real-time data and background jobs.

• Experience working with AWS, GCP, or Azure for cloud-based infrastructure and services.

• Prior experience in a startup or fast-growing environment.

  Senior Software Engineer positions offer a base pay range of $190,000 - $210,000 plus equity and benefits. Please note that the base pay shown is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. We also offer low deductible health plans, as well as flexible time away and family leave programs.
