About the role

SynMax is looking for an experienced reservoir engineer with strong minerals and royalty evaluation experience to act as the technical expert for our customers. You will help users understand how SynMax fits into their existing workflows, support the sales process as the technical lead, and provide product feedback based on real-world engineering needs.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for minerals and royalty evaluations, reserves, decline curve analysis (DCA), and type-curve workflows.
  • Help position SynMax minerals and reserves workflows as a trusted alternative to traditional decline-curve and economic modeling tools.
  • Lead technical discussions with prospects and customers, including demos, workflow design, and evaluation setup.
  • Create repeatable, easy-to-use template workflows and demo patterns that help both internal teams and customers get value quickly.
  • Partner closely with product and engineering teams to represent the voice of the customer and influence roadmap priorities.
  • Provide training, onboarding, and best practices for new users, focusing on scalable, systematic enablement rather than ad-hoc support.
  • Review forecasts, type curves, and reserves outputs to ensure technical accuracy and build customer confidence in results.
  • Build and refine standard evaluation setups that reflect how leading minerals and reserves teams work in practice.
  • What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in reservoir engineering or reserves evaluation, ideally with minerals/royalty exposure.
  • Hands-on experience with ComboCurve and/or ARIES.
  • Strong understanding of decline curve analysis, type curves, and economic evaluations for unconventional plays.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both engineers and non-technical users.
  • Some familiarity with Python or willingness to learn enough to follow and support technical workflows.
  • Comfort and credibility in customer-facing conversations, especially in technical sales settings.
  • A systematic mindset for building scalable processes, not just one-off analyses.
  • nice to have

  • Experience at a minerals/royalties company, A&D team, or reserves consulting group.
  • Exposure to PHDWin, ValNav, Spotfire, and/or Excel-based economic models.
  • Prior experience in sales engineering, product, or customer success.
  • Strong familiarity with unconventional basin behaviors (Permian and beyond) and how those nuances affect DCA and reserves outcomes.
