Job Description

What You Do: The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for building, maintaining, and deploying standardized Windows images and configurations across the organization. This role supports system provisioning, OS lifecycle management, and endpoint automation using Microsoft and third-party tools. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with deployment technologies and a strong understanding of Windows client environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and deploy Windows images using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) and related tools.
  • Create and manage automated deployment workflows and post-deployment configurations using PowerShell scripting.
  • Administer and support endpoint management and patch deployment via ManageEngine Desktop Central (Endpoint Central).
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure consistent system configuration, driver management, and application packaging.
  • Troubleshoot imaging, driver, and deployment issues during provisioning or post-deployment phases.
  • Maintain documentation for imaging processes, task sequences, and automation scripts.
  • Assist in testing and validating new Windows builds, feature updates, and security patches.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of imaging and endpoint management strategies.

First Year in Role:

  • 30 Days: Taking over the windows image update process, monthly patching and reporting, DIA and store manager deployments; with supervision.
  • 60 Days: Taking over the windows image update process, monthly patching and reporting, DIA and store manager deployments; with autonomy/without supervision.
  • 90 Days: This individual should be identifying shortcomings with our current processes and formalizing how we would improve them. Solutions should focus on automation primarily.
  • 1 Year: Our current imaging, tracking, maintenance processes should be largely automated.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in IT systems administration, desktop engineering, and endpoint management.
  • 1+ years of experience integrating Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) with WDS or third-party deployment tools preferred but not required

Education + Certifications:

  • CompTIA A+ preferred but not required
  • Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate preferred but not required

Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Skilled at Windows update management and patching workflows
  • Familiarity with Windows OS deployment, driver injection, task sequences, and unattended installations.

Tools:

  • Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) experience required
  • Windows Imaging Management (WIM) experience required
  • Virtualization Platforms used for image testing (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V)
  • PowerShell for scripting automation experience required
  • Endpoint Management tools (e.g. ManageEngine Desktop Central, Intune)
  • Office 365 preferred but not required
