As one of the four members of the plant leadership team, the Transportation Manager oversees and manages all transportation and distribution operations.  Responsibilities include supervision of Drivers, Loaders, and Dispatchers, truck routing, driver payroll, operational and financial reporting, maintenance coordination, driver logs, carrier negotiation and customer service.

You’ll be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Managing the Bay City plant’s in-house transportation fleet (5 Drivers) by developing a productive and cost-effective shipping and trucking schedule and partnering with common carriers as needed
  • Monitoring and maintaining all transportation records including driver logs, fuel receipts, and vehicle maintenance schedules
  • Providing world-class customer service to Metal Sales customers inquiring about delivery status
  • Managing the logistics of truck routes and stops for maximum efficiency and effectiveness
  • Creating department operating budgets, standard operating procedures, and other administrative support such as yearly performance evaluations, scheduling, and payroll
  • Fostering a great place to work environment for direct reports (Truck drivers and Loaders) by recruiting top talent, coaching, training, and supporting the transportation team
  • Providing strategic direction and collaboration as part of the branch leadership team
  • Ensuring the team works in a safe environment by following all Metal Sales safety policies, conducting quarterly Driver safety meetings, and adhering to all regulations established by Federal and State governing bodies

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years in a management/supervisory role, preferably in the trucking industry and/or shipping receiving
  • Proven ability to follow, improve, and execute procedures necessary to maintain effective workflow and communication between all departments, including Sales and Production.
  • Working knowledge of Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) rules and regulations
  • Associate degree in logistics or related field or two years equivalent transportation supervision/management experience
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software platforms
  • Experience with NetSuite and/or Dispatch Track a plus
  • A desire to work in a hands-on team-oriented environment with a “can do” attitude

 

Additional Information

We offer medical, dental, vision benefits starting day 1 + 401k and PTO. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. (Full-time is defined as regularly working 30+ hours per week.)
